What do the "Togglable Quickwheel Hotkeys" do?

There's a section in the Controls interface called "Togglable Quickwheel Hotkeys". I gather from web-searching that Quickwheel refers to the radial array of items in the UI, whether for Quick Slots or Mementos or whatever. And the "Togglable" part seems to be covered by the fact that there is a checkbox for each of the 10 hotkeys right there in the Controls interface.

What I don't understand is what these hotkeys DO on the Quickwheel(s).

I checked a few of the check-boxes, populated the corresponding slots in my Quick Slot Quickwheel and pressed my Quickwheel control, but then pressing the Togglable Quickwheel Hotkeys" that I had toggled on does absolutely nothing. I also tried using them when no Quickwheel was displayed, and again they do absolutely nothing.

Can anyone give me an idea of what these are for?

it lets you press on a key/button to select an item from a quickwheel,

without having to use the analogue stick on a controller or mouse(if that's what you normally use to select it) to select it.

if it's from the first wheel you still have to activate it though.
