Is it still possible to make money with master writs? Are they even worth it?

Well, recently, I was able to sell a crafting table with some master writs that I had saved. But I've been thinking about ways to turn this into some profit, and I realize that it might not be worth it given the high prices of materials nowadays. Any of you guys seeing returns from this? Is it even worth doing?

Let's just break down the basic prices:
Writs (legendary) clothing: Dreugh Wax (8), which will cost an average of over 320k~ for a single book that will give some amount of vouchers.

Writ (legendary) blacksmithing: Tempering Alloy (8), an average of 200k~ per writ book.

Maybe master writs for woodworking might still somehow be worth it. However, the other master writs use resources like Perfect Roe, Chromium plating, and Zircon plating.

Assuming you make a crafting table using 250 vouchers and would sell it for 600k, at the end of the day, I don't see how all of this would be worth the risk x return.

I thought of sharing all this to get opinions from others, as I feel like I might not be seeing the full picture.

    Some are, some aren't.

I've long not done any gold clothing, hakeijo enchanting, perfect roe provisioning master writs.

Other enchanting, provisioning, and many alchemy (non-violet coprinus) are only 200-500g/voucher to do, thus selling for 2.4k per voucher is a huge profit.

Some of the other durable goods ones are in the 1.3k-2k per voucher to craft, so they're worth.

This also depends on how you get your materials for them. If you're having to buy everything (including the master writs), there isn't much profit. But getting the master writs yourself, getting the materials from other sources can make it a very viable way to make a lot of gold.

(I have sold on the order of 2,000 attunable stations over my crafting lifetime, there can be a ton of profit in it, done right.)
Tenacious Dreamer - Hurricane Herald - Godslayer - Dawnbringer - Gryphon Heart - Tick Tock Tormenter - Immortal Redeemer - Dro-m'Athra Destroyer
The Unchained - Oathsworn - Bedlam's Disciple - Temporal Tempest - Curator's Champion - Fist of Tava - Invader's Bane - Land, Air, and Sea Supremacy - Zero Regrets - Battlespire's Best - Bastion Breaker - Ardent Bibliophile - Subterranean Smasher - Bane of Thorns - True Genius - In Defiance of Death - No Rest for the Wicked - Nature's Wrath - Undying Endurance - Relentless Raider - Depths Defier - Apex Predator - Pure Lunacy - Mountain God - Leave No Bone Unbroken - CoS/RoM/BF/FH Challenger

I don’t use master writ vouchers to purchase attunables tables to sell because I am saving up for the master crafter tables. I also personally don’t like to have to invest something in an item when I have things to sell without any investment in them, like master writs that I earn.

I do sell almost all gold writs for wood, blacksmithing, and clothing just for income. I also sell purple master writs for all crafts if they require expensive mats.

The reason I do master writs is mostly for the XP when enlightened.

I am on console though so prices of everything are much cheaper.

Thank you for the insights. But wow... 2000 attunable stations, lol. Really didn't expect someone to capitalize on that.

Anyway... What makes me question if master writs are really worth it is also the fact that the materials you would use to complete them are worth much more when sold separately. I also considered the possibility of collecting the materials instead of buying them, but I came to the same conclusion that it's much more profitable to sell the materials. Things like Tempering Alloy, Dreugh Wax, Perfect Roe, etc. This is not related to your response, but rather some thoughts I had that serve as a critique to the game itself, as this dynamic doesn't seem to make much sense. It would basically be generating a loss for yourself.

But you mentioned something interesting there. So, you can earn enough vouchers to buy attunable stations only from writs that pay lower voucher values? Because after your response, I got curious and couldn't find a writ like that. After your response, I checked some trade guilds more thoroughly, and I must confess I couldn't find any of these writs for less than 10-20k.

I don't buy any master writs. I earn all of them from doing my own daily writs on my own crafters. They might occasionally be purchasable for a price that lets you turn a profit, but not often.

The majority of the profit is in getting them for "free" as a bonus reward from doing the daily writs (which are already very profitable), and then doing them yourself.

I haven't done a gold clothing master writ (using Dreugh Wax) in years. As you said it's better to just sell the materials than do that, so I sell those gold clothing master writs in my guilds. Same with anything that uses Hakeijo or Perfect Roe... they simply aren't worth it.

Gold Blacksmithing is close to a wash (unless it's a nirnhoned weapon, then they're actually quite good because of the multipliers involved in the number of vouchers you get)

Again, this is all predicated on you getting the master writs for "free", NOT buying them. Getting them as rewards.

The only time I have ever bought a master writ was when I was looking for other items in the guild stores and noticed ones that were priced very far below value and I could actually make a profit on. Otherwise I just do the ones that I earn that are worth doing, and sell the ones that aren't.

I made plenty of money recently from some master writs, not by filling them but by selling them. If I ever need writ vouchers, I can fill some writs, but until then I just sell all the writs I get, because there are always some players who want them.

I use Writworthy addon and only do master writs where cost per voucher is less than 1k and then I buy attunable crafting stations for 250 vouchers and sell them for about 330k, so I make more than 1k per voucher so it's def profitable. Then if you count that all master writs and almost all mats I get are for free from daily writs it's almost pure profit.
I usually just sell master writs for provisioning, alchemy and enchanting though.

I destroy many master writs (the ones that use perfect roe, for example). Or if it's a rare, expensive motif. Destroy!
