Are new book furnishings bugged? Possible spoilers (may be)

So they're based on your character's Eidetic Memory? I don't want to run EA on my questing character, and I definitely don't want to go hunt down all the books on each of my EA characters.

I hope they change the drop prerequisite or make it account-wide. I would like! The books!

I’ve gotten book furnishings from EA on characters that have barely read anything so it doesn’t seem to be correct that the EA ones only drop if the book is in your character’s Eidetic memory.

Edit: And I want to add that I wish ZOS could, for once, be clear about how drops work. The patch notes just say book furnishings have been added. It doesn’t say from chests, it doesn’t say from treasure map chests and it doesn’t say you have had to read them first. Why is it so difficult to add those kind of things instead of letting players guess?

Definitely agree. There's so much guesswork in finding out how things drop. It'd be nice if they gave us even a bit more to work with than the vague patch notes

Eidetic Memory is tied to an Account Wide Achievement now it looks like since I have it unlocked on characters who are on the initial quest for the Mage's Guild. But I did get a book drop on a character who didn't complete the mage's guild storyline in a chest from the wild, not from EA.

I might have been lucky but they seem to drop pretty good from the treasure chests. Opened 27 goldcoast treasure chests and got 9 book furnishings, luckily dropped the last missing one on map 25. So that would be an average of 33% chance for a book, thats not too bad.

Still very sad they are bound from the chests. They wouldve better made only the ones from the ool merchant bound on pickup and decreased the chance on treasure chest maps to like a 10th of what the drop rate seems to be atm. So that it wouldve actually be somewhat valuable. But i guess the "problem" is that they are associated with the characters knowledge of the eidetic memory books.

I circuit-farmed chests for the better part of 3 hours in Summerset to see if they did drop from Overland chests; if they do, it is phenomenally uncommon. Not a single drop out of hundreds of nodes. Got a full run with maybe 30 treasure maps, so sticking with that method.

@EdjeSwift Are you sure it was a chest from the wild or was is a treasure map chest?

Also is known, were Hews Bane treasure maps do drop? they seem to be very rare or the drop location widely unknown and specific @ZOS_JessicaFolsom

I think perhaps since there are only 2 Gold Coast treasure maps that, over time as new zones have been added, the increasing total number of treasure maps just makes it harder to drop. The drop rate for them probably needs to be increased to make up for that.

I've got Gold Coast treasure maps numerous times from various sources. I do not remember ever getting a Hew's Bane map as a drop in almost 4 years of playing. I was lucky to snatch a couple of maps off guild traders and got 1 book from them.

You can see that something is definitely wrong with the drop rate if you compare a gazillion of Gold Coast maps available at any given moment at the traders with 1 to 0 of available Hew's Bane maps.

I would love to know where they drop from.

I'd really love a detailed and official announcement.

It's really confusing, and I already had searched treasure chests for DAYS. Slept, ate, and opened treasure chests. Not one book.

It's really disheartening to have to learn there are prerequisites on the forums on an OLD thread I had to Google search to find.

I found an addon that helps me find their locations.

Read the 4 books for Wrothgar. Now to open treasure chests for days and see what happens.

Hopefully there are no other hidden requirements.

Yeah, I worry about that. I keep getting the same two books from Southern Elsweyr even though all four are in the Eidetic Memory of the character digging up the chests. But they’ve also done most of the quests in that zone so probably just poor RNG.

Can anyone confirm whether you can increase the chances of looting a particular book from the relevant treasure chest (ex: “On Minotaurs” from Gold Coast treasure maps) by using the maps on a character that only has the desired books unlocked? Or does it “roll” for the book and then check whether the character has it unlocked?

Uh, idk tbh. But i would give it a shot. I dont think it does roll for a specific book tho. It likely just rolls if a book should drop or not and then let rngesus decide which one. Would be cool if you could test it. If it does not roll for a specific book, its very likely you get the desired one with 5-6 treasure maps.

I’ve read some say this works, my experience says you’re as likely to open a lot of treasure chests without any books rather than the ones you want, but either sample is too small to know anything… I was hoping there was official information somewhere or someone with the time, resources, and interest would do a statistical analysis of the rates!

I definitely got the Reach ones I think the Cavern ones too. These are the ones that I keep on my toons that are parked for the purpose of urn looting. So, they are noticeable in their inventory. Most of the base game treasure maps I delete once they are pulled from the portfolios. I keep only the base game maps from the territories that I like to visit for whatever reason - like Khenarthi Roost or Stros M'Kai or Craglorn.

By the way, thanks to the current event I got the last 2 books from the treasure chests that I was missing for my collection - from Hew's Bane of course. Luckily, it took me only 3 maps I think. I managed to buy one map for 5K off a guild trader and got 2 as drops from the event coffers I think.

So, Hew's Bane treasure maps are not concerning me anymore. But I would still want to know why they are so rare outside of events.

I already posted this somewhere but here it is again. Since the introduction of the book furnishings from the treasure chests I was trying to monitor them on TTC website. Some days there were no maps at all, some there was one or two. But I've seen them cost several K at most. Then, one day several traders listed 5 or so at exorbitant prices ranging from 19 to 40Mil. I was shocked. That was the start of the current price craze. I think that some traders decided to manipulate the prices before the event (thought I have to admit that it happened before the event was announced).

Thank you! It is easy to have doubts or wonder if there are other hidden requirements when I have a character trek across a zone they’d never been in to look for a particular book or two — but of course drop rate is average and there are bad streaks even as, on my main, I would occasionally get two books in close succession.

Most importantly, I’ve completed my Red Curse trilogy now, so I can stop fretting!

i thought that too. not sure if it was because anyone knew that they will drop during the event or just because they were discussed a lot lately.
