Add ons missing?

Hello,

before the update (40) I had a bunch of lovely add on that were just dandy!

Now they seem to be gone. I use Minion - could not find any so re-added them.

Restarted the game, still can't see them

I am pretty sure under Setting or Controls there was another Add Ons menus?

Help?

Tankz,

Z

    Hey @phaneub17_ESO

I only have one toon, and on the main screen...there are no notifications

Is that what you are saying?

make sure windows didnt act up, addons dont work well with onedrive, as it will usually move them to the wrong location for the game to find them

    oh I see.
    OneDrive totally messes those up

    I am using W11
    and my addons are here:

    C:\Users\<user>\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns
And I can see them in Minion.

But no where in the game.

    I reinstalled Minion, still nothing

    No msg from Windows.

Might have to delete the addons and start again?

Could it be a permissions problem? Does ESO have permission to access the location where the addons are installed? If the ESO client gets updated (as it recently did), you might need to give your approval that it's okay for ESO to access the location where the addons are.

Check the physical location on your C drive. If the AddOns are there, it is neither a Minion nor Microsoft problem.

Then go into your game and on character selection screen, NOT in game, select AddOns, NOT settings.
If there is anything written in red, it will not be loaded in game by the UI.

The two most common reasons an AddOn isn't loaded are missing dependencies and not activating the AddOn.

It's trivial to rectify that, really.

Thanks @Zodiarkslayer for helping me out.

I reinstalled Minion in the default location it chose:
    C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Minion

    The addons are here:
    C:\Users\user\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns

Here is my main screen game screen:

    livj8wy7rijv.png

and here is my addon dir:

    ofnockubj43d.png

even if I choose a toon, they don't show up

I did try adding Harvest Map manually (download, unzip, and drop into addons)

But they still don't show up.

They were saving to OneDrive, until my OD blew up...had to start over.

Thoughts? Or just time to buy a console?

    Tankz,

    Z

This is beyond weird. I have some ideas of what could be going on.

Your game has a UI error that prevents it from reading that directory. On that case I would contact Support.

Your ESO.exe is not executed as Admin, which can sometimes prevent programms from reading directories with personal files, like "documents". You can change that by going into your game install directory and right click -> properties on the ESO.exe.

Some security programs or firewalls will do the same. They will prevent ESO from loading data in \USER\Name\ ...
Whitelisting ESO.exe in your security program is always a good idea.

One Drive is messing with you. It can happen that it shifts files to the cloud and thus prevents your other non MS programs to have access.

Hope this helps you find out what is going on. 👍

I have the same issue. My add-ons were all moved to onedrive. Moved them back to the correct folder. Minion sees them and even update them ... but the game do not see them anymore. Should I uninstall and reinstall the game ?
During the afternoon of Loredas, 6 Sun’s Dawn 2e578 a big piece of Aetherius fell to Nirn. It was the first major piece of Aetherius to fall on Nirn in more than five hundred years. It scattered around the world as millions of shards. It was rapidly documented by Lady Cinnabar of Taneth in her pamphlet Aetherial Fragments that "... when three shards meet, they re-form into a silvery prism by unknown process and confer the power unlocked by the merger to a nearby being." The Order of the Black Worm, commonly known as the Worm Cult, reappeared in Tamriel shortly thereafter and some of its members are avidly searching said shards.
In the last week of First Seed 2e579, an arcane explosion occurred in the Imperial City — a night of storms, and trembling terrain. They named it the "Soulburst". That day Emperor Varen Aquilarios disappeared without a trace. His wife, Clivia Tharn, ascended to the Ruby Throne as Empress Regent under the guidance of the Necromancer Mannimarco. Ushering a time of increased instability within the Empire of Cyrodiil which finally grew into “The Three Banners War”.

Just for the sake of clarity in case it will help others (possibly even myself someday), are you saying that you've changed the addons to be in that folder (rather than in whatever other folder they were in before) and now your problem is resolved?

    Yes...

    And to be clear.

    They were originally here:

    C:\Users\user\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns

    I coped them to

    C:\Users\user1\OneDrive\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns

And it works. I don't understand why...but they get backed up now whether I want that or not....

Okay, thank you very much for clarifying, as I imagine this will be very helpful information for anyone who runs into the same issue.

And as for why it worked, my guess is that maybe there was some sort of conflict/confusion between ESO and Minion as to where the folder was located, possibly coming about for whatever reason when U40 was downloaded and installed.

I've noticed that when a major patch gets installed, one might need to reestablish certain permissions or update certain settings to ensure that things continue to operate as desired.

Case in point, when I downloaded and installed U40 on my MacBook Air, I got a prompt from macOS saying that a program (it didn't specify which one) wanted permission to accept input from other programs, or something odd-sounding like that. I was downloading and installing U40 in the background and playing Ultima I in GOG while waiting for the patch to finish, so I didn't know which program macOS was talking about or what kind of "input" it wanted to accept from other programs, so I answered "No." Then I realized it must have meant ESO, but it was too late to answer "Yes," and I couldn't find anywhere in the System Settings to change that specific permission for ESO. Everything seems to be working fine, so apparently there was no harm done, but it's an example of how a major patch can require reestablishing permissions or preferences afterward.

Even when I tried to manually place addon into C:\Users\user1\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns it did not work.

I had the same issue probably the same day. Win11 Home. Instead of copying my folder to onedrive the OneDrive backup moved the folder.

I copied back the files in the proper folder. However some add-ons are not working (file missing which I downloaded but are not recognized) and some requesting up-to-date files (which I have). And 90% are showing out-of-date.

    Just had this very problem.

Had me scratching my head for a short while but fortunately I remembered having played with my Windows 10 security features just a few hours earlier.

I found a section of Windows Security called Ransomware Protection. The features were turned off by default. I turned on the 'Controlled folder access' option. Says it "Protects files, folders, and memory areas on your device from unauthorized changes by unfriendly applications."

Well.. the Documents folder is one of those included by default as a protected folder. And apparently it considers ESO and many other perfectly nice programs as unfriendly.

Anyhow I turned that feature off (though I could also remove the Documents folder or add ESO as a friendly application), and it fixed the problem.
