Personal Plant thief doesn't do anything - honest review

Soul Shriven
So I bought the plant thief hoping that it would do the heavy lifting for me. I activated it and waited to harvest the "corn flower" right in front of me. But nothing happened. I couldn't even see it around. So I harvested it and clicked "E" and it appeared animating that it was harvesting it for me. After that I thought it would collect it but again I was wrong, I have to press "R" to collect it.

I repeated it thrice and still the same. Very frustrating. So what am I supposed to do with this animation thief. This expensive thief is just an animation.

If I am wrong, point me to the right direction on how to use it, otherwise, spend your crown on something else.

Those are always animations and do not add anything extra outside of already existing features and perks.

All customised actions are nothing more than new animations for harvesting and recalling. They don't do anything other than what you could already do.

It can't work without your commands.
Who knows if it is the plant you want to get or not? Do you want to loot all the items or you lack of inventory space? Only you can decide.
Have a mercy. It's head is small. These decisions are too hard for such creature. The only thing it does is placing their fast paws on plants you choose.

You can turn on auto loot in your settings. You'd still have to click it to pick the thing you want to harvest. But after that it will just take everything in the plant. So, you don't have to confirm a 2nd time anymore. Works on enemy bodies, chests, urns, plants, etc. Not part of the animation but will at least make it look better and speed up harvesting.

That's why I don't understand the market for the customized animations. They don't do anything except look different. There is no functional benefit to them.

It's the same market as for costumes or emotes or personalities. They let us express our characters. They let us live our roleplaaaay.

I don't know if the price point makes sense for all of those things, though. The cost has made me picky about what customized actions I pick up. And I certainly don't understand why they keep releasing customized actions of the same type with the same theme: we now have two animal-themed harvesting animations and two Coldharbour-themed recall animations.

I think the custom actions are overpriced, but it's one's choice whether to buy them or not. Like any of the cosmetics in the crown store, the game can be played just fine without them.

And I can only imagine the "pay-to-win" outcry if the custom actions actually made harvesting easier or gave some other type of advantage.

(EDIT to add: As for the OP - if you are unhappy with your purchase and feel that you were misled or misunderstood what you were purchasing, you could always try putting in a support ticket. It's possible that ZoS might be willing to work with you to find a resolution.).

ESO's cash shop is limited to aesthetics and convenience items. You won't find anything directly purchasable that will provide a gameplay advantage.

Not to mention an in game auto-harvest would be a nightmare when dealing with bots.

Did you really think it was going to harvest everything for you? its a "Custom Animation" nothing more not some paid buff.

Agree, now it was an Oblivion mod who had an harvest in area spell.
This worked very well together with farming mods :)

Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

If they sold anything that gave a gameplay advantage they would be sued within 1 minute by all the online forum lawyers for play to win behavior.

    It's working as intended:

Press E to order the thief which plant to pick then press R to free the cute little fella from said plant and store it in your backpack.

As @spartaxoxo hinted you're able to train your personal plant tief to store the plant in your backpack for themselves in options.

Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

The first time i found a blue fishing rod in this game i thought it would upgrade my fishing skills. It was very disappointing to realize that it was just a worthless piece of junk. I still kept it in my inventory for a few weeks before i sold it to an NPC merchant for 100 gold or something.

    So i understand your frustration.

I bought the previous plant gatherer, some sort of bird maybe. I used it on one of my characters, then realized that really I just want to pick things up as fast as possible, and couldn't care less about any animation to do so. Will not buy another.
Though I did look at the enchanting frosty arm thing, thinking maybe.. then gave myself a virtual slap. No!

Would have been so cool to have said bird (or creature), to run around the nodes gathering everything in one go, in half the time.
Not pay to win, as it gives you no combat advantage. Just a time one.

    What a weird comment.

Most of the content added to this game is cosmetic. What is the purpose of a different mount? A different house (within the same furniture limit of course)? A different non-combat pet? The grey Warden Bear? A different outfit style? A different costume? A different personality? A different title? A different skin? It's all cosmetic. The purpose is for ZOS to make money. That's how live service games work.

    It's all cosmetic.

The crown store sells different versions of merchants, bankers, armory assistants, ragpackers, pets for extra inventory slots (rat, donkey and boar), multirider mounts (and maybe other stuff?) with kind of useful functions/features.

A pet for harvesting materials sounds like a nice idea. But some people would use it for afk-farming 24/7 and waste a lot of energy (electricity). Maybe the prices for materials (like columbine) would go down, and for some of us that would be a great development. But for the people who just like to farm materials all day it might be a problem.

I am not sure what this would do to farmbots. Maybe they would invest some crowns and use the pet too. Or maybe it could be a solution for the farmbot problem we have on consoles.

I guess they could even sell a little army of different farming pets for different materials and people would buy them.

Loved the magic-summoned pick-axe mining action, along with the flashy blade spinning rune harvester. But to be honest, I only got those because they made an otherwise /meh event seem more amusing.

    As for a plant harvester?
Honestly, I've no idea why I even need plants at all beyond writs.
I'm a Vampire. I shouldn't be "eating" anything, but you know, ZOS logic and all...

    Greetings,

After removing some off-topic comments from this thread, we would like everyone to keep posts on the subject at hand, civil, and constructive. It has also been moved to the Crown Store topic, since it deals with a Crown Store item.
