Point of crafting stuff?

What is the reason to craft gear/weapon? It can have just a trait and that's it. Meanwhile "set" things are with bonuses.
What am I missing?

Crafting allows you to make gear in your preferred trait.
You can upgrade your gear to golden quality.
You can unlock crafted sets, that have 5 piece bonuses, too. There are even two that have a 12 piece bonus.
You can qualify for and then craft daily crafting writs. Which have numerous advantages to fo daily. Dor example, they sometimes drop master writs, that you can hand in for writ vouchers, a unique currency that allows you to get some of the most unique and useful items in game. Storage chests for example.
You can make your own consumables.
Especially Alchemy will unlock for you the ability to increase potion effect duration. That will allow you to take potions on cooldown. Every character should have that.

Tldr, learn how to craft everything.

If anyone here says: OH! But, PVP! I swear I'll ...

Thank you for the valuable input and respectfully recommend to discuss that aspect of ESO on the PVP forum.

are we talking about ordinary blacksmith/cloth/wood stations? or there are some special locations with unique workbenches?

Each zone has one or two? locations where you can craft a zone related set

Here is a list of craftable sets at esohub:

The basic crafting stations are for refining, deconstructing, researching, and crafting non-set gear for the daily crafting jobs, or for improving any set you want. The crafted sets stations, as @Vynera linked, are for crafting "craftable" sets. There are some very strong sets in that list like Order's Wrath. Not to get to far ahead, but if you get a transmutable crafting station, you can take it to one of these crafted sets stations and make your own crafting station for that set for your home.

While crafting is not necessary in the game, I would recommend having at least one player set up as a "master crafter" who has researched 9 traits minimum for gear. If/When you create an alternate character, its very very convenient to be able to craft 2 sets of gear (like Order's Wrath and Hundlings, for example) with training traits on all pieces to help you level up faster
