As the title states.

First let's get this out of the way: Yes, I understand current companion selections have to fit their stories and look the way they do. Ok, check.

Suggestion: Add a companion to crown shop without complication (no story needed, no background, just click and buy a token).

At the login screen you use this companion token where you get to select all the options you would normally have available at character creation. (Class, Race, Look, Alliance etc.)
Summon in game like any other companion - level them up like you would anything else; these companions can be outfitted with all skills and gear available to regular players.

If that sounds too powerful then ZOS could simply adjust output of these companions by a flat X amount.
And for the story seekers: This could be implemented in any X location (Tavern or Inn for example) where you do X to earn said token.

What say you?

Not for me; I prefer companions who are their own characters with their own stories. That said, I have absolutely nothing against such an option being available for those who want it.

I personally would love this, though probably never be able to afford it.

I also would love it if we could do at least a limited customization of existing companions. Some things wouldn't be able to be changed, such as Ember always being a female Khajiit, but maybe we could change fur color, markings and so on. Same for other companions. Name, Story, etc.. would all remain the same, we just get to have slightly more personalized companions, and so not all Bastians would look exactly the same except for clothing.

Barring that, I would love it if we were able to use things like major/minor adornments. I love the things like the circlets, and would love to have my companions use them, or use facial markings etc...

I was okay with everything except for this. This just sounds like a massive headache to code/balance properly. There's probably a good reason why companion gear is set up without bonuses and have the limited traits. And mix and matching skills available to players sounds like a recipe for disaster.

If they did this, it would be a companion set by class, we have all but Necro so far, and then you'd pull from the skills currently in place from the current companion pool.

I like this idea. It would be nice to have the option to create your own companion for roleplay/immersion.
I don't think they need to have different skill sets from the current companions though, the current skill sets would be fine for me.

They've only really just started up the companion system and it, by no means, complete yet... they need to make sure things work before piling on more features.

Don't think ZOS should make existing companions customizable, and don't think companions should be able to wear player gear.

But I would love a "Create your own Companion" DLC. Where we can create an entirely new companion ourselves: Race, looks, likes/dislikes, etc.

For me, the interesting thing about the companions is their backstories and characters and I found our two newest companions to be extremely good in this regard. A companion without a story and character would be completely pointless to me.
The only thing you should be able to change about the companions is headgear... There is zero reason for not being able to put a wizard's hat on Azandar.

I intentionally avoid making my characters grin when I create them because it looks absolutely creepy and unnatural.
So if we were allowed to change just one thing about our Companions, I would change Isobel's mouth to a neutral state.

I'd be fine if they'd just let us customize our companion's hairstyle (and beard) and/or let us display headgear on them.

A fully customizable companion would be nice of course, but they should never be allowed full player abilities. The extent of customization should be limited to cosmetic features, race and likes/dislikes.

yeah that alone would address alot of complaints I have seen in terms of immersiveness of everyone running with their clones of same companion.

Yeesh. Can they light attack too? Because a 130k DPS companion I can tank or heal for sounds great.

What about the voice acting for the build your own companion? ZOS would have to create dialog in all the races and each gender. I can't imagine them spending resources on that.

This sadly is probably part of why it they won't do it. Not because of the Verandis thing, I love the bloke. But because people are extra creative and there may be issues with copyrighted images and materials being done.

Wouldn't there already be that issue with player characters, though?

I am envisioning the companion 'customization' to be more limited than the player character one, so I wouldn't really see how there would be an issue with companions looking like copyrighted materials/images if the player characters don't already have that issue.

I understand the sentiment here, I do. But the logic breaks down once we understand we're currently capable of doing that with our own character creations.

An example is, I currently have toons that look like:
        • Wonder Woman
        • Spiderman
        • Hulk
        • She-Hulk
        • Aquaman

        No lawsuits pending.
