Making the case for a Class Change token

I know that many players may not like the idea of a class change token, but I think that there are many good points to make for having one implemented while still making the system restrictive enough to not lead to abuse.

Not all players are interested in having multiple characters to have to manage. We often hear of people doing their daily "chores" of logging into each character to level up mount stats, complete skill lines (scrying, I'm looking at you), and finding skyshards. Yes, there are crown skill lines you can purchase to complete all of these items, but not every player can afford or wants to spend real money on completing skill lines faster. Utilizing PTS, we could see how a class plays and then decide to pay for a single token to change our class.

The benefit, and by far the biggest reason for me in wanting a class change token, is that I enjoy having a single character to log into (yes I have other chars on my account, but it's mostly to create a name I thought was funny), and having one character that has all recipes, motif's, praxis, etc learned (yes, I know you can use the bank to move items to another char to learn, but I just prefer to have one char to play on, and one char that is learning all the items available IG). Switching characters is possible, but I'd much rather just keep one character with an option to change it's class every now and then to make things more interesting, without having to think "I don't have crafting levelled up yet on this char so I can't do daily crafting writs".

In order to keep it from being overused, a cooldown on the token could be implemented so that you can only change class once every three months, and class changes would not be allowed to be saved in the armory (when you change your class, you change the slots avaialble in the armory). This allows users to play alternate classes without losing all the progress they've made, and allow them to have some variety.

The biggest example I can provide, is the recent introduction of the Aracanist class. I've enjoyed playing on my Arcanist character, but often default to my Sorc because that's the character I'm used to playing, and the one I'm trying to get to complete achievements etc.

One other option (which I would actually quite enjoy) would be that all story related skills could also be reset when changing classes. Skill lines would remain (ie: scrying, crafting etc) but all zone quests, and dungeon skill points are reset and I have to do those quests again. I'd love to go back to do zone quests without having to create a new character to do so, and this could help to achieve that.

Just a thought, look forward to reading other perspectives.

I guess it was time for this one, or the auction house one  !

Seriously, I suggest you read through the last topic on this - it ran for many pages and contains all the arguments for and against.

Devs said they tried this internally and it just brought in too many issues and bugs.

I've never liked the idea of a class change token. You can already change your race, your name, your appearance, your attributes, and your skills. The class is really the only thing left making it stay as THAT character. If you want ANOTHER character then make another character.

And I know, OP, you already spoke to this point a little bit. It isn't much of a point I guess so much as a "why?"

A lot of this stuff lately annoys me and seems to trivialize the game. Preset loadouts in outfit stations? One which is cleverly blank at all times to eliminate ever having to reset skills or CP again? Doing trash packs in trials with one set-up then switching seamlessly over to a new set-up for the boss?

They call it Quality of Life. I call it making a game too easy.

Why should I be able to take my 6 year old DK with like 200 skill points, all crafting antiquities and weapon lines unlocked and leveled up, every guild available, and turn him into a 6 year old (for all intents and purposes,) Warden?

Just BLAM I spent 10 real dollars and now I'm an end-game Warden? Kinda... Unfair isn't it? Unfair to all the people that came before and have two characters for each class. Unfair to the game itself in that you just bypass actually playing it.

But I don't worry about this ever becoming a thing. ZOS would lose so much money if they did this. Because of the things I mentioned-- most of which are available in the store already-- and would never again be purchased if this were an alternative.

If there ever were a class change token (which I am in favor of, even though I don’t know if I’d use it as I like playing different characters), it would not make any sense for the story quests to reset. You’re the same character, after all, and isn’t the point that you want to keep playing that same character and complete everything with them? Doing a story quest again is one of the things alternate characters should always be for. :)

Hi everyone, just wanted to let you all know that we do not have any plans on implementing class changes tokens at this time. There are a number of technical challenges with implementing them, and it would take a significant amount of time to solve these challenges efficiently and safely.

Those who hate class change: DK’s and NB’s.
Those who would want to appreciate it: Everyone else.

This is sadly a post in vain as they constantly bat down requests like this.
