For two character slots per class, how do you organize your roles?

KestrelFive
For example, do you go with DPS/tank on one, healer on the other? Maybe DPS/Heal on one, tank on the other?

Which would you recommend for Arcanist: healer race dual specced with Armory for healing and tanking, with DPS separate? Or DPS race with less effective tank/heal passives?

i personally have never used the armory system, each toon has 1 build setup at a time and thats it lol

i seldomly even carry extra sets of gear to swap around lol

i have another friend who has a tank, heal, and DPS armory setups for every character lol, then he complains to me he has no bag space carrying around all of the gear needed for that lol

Now days I think it's better to only have one toon/class, unless you want a couple different healers or tanks. For DPS toons, just train them up in both stam and mag and reformat as needed.

my warden has a build for every role.

one of my necromancer is a healer and the other a tank. but i dont have that for every other class.

one of my four nightblades is a tank, but the others are just damage dealers.

one arcanist has a build for every role and the other is currently just a damage dealer, but has tanked too.

i do not know what to recommend for your arcanist.
but you dont need to choose a race that's ideal for a role, unless maybe you're planning on doing hardmode trials i guess.

my main warden that i play with the most and thus tank, heal, and deal damage with the most is a bosmer. because i just chose what i like.

I have only seven characters. All of them has more than four hundred skill points and ten armory slots. So switching roles is just one click away. All gear stored in bank as well. So i can just put my desired gear on a character with addons.

I would recommend using damage dealer Arcanist as a separate character. Other one can go with Healing and Tanking as some of the passives are both needed for those roles.

Bottom Slot is a soft reset, it has all the champion points and mostly passive points spent with all skills unspent. From there I change my build to however I want without having to allocate the things I know I will always get each time. Top Slot is my most commonly used build for solo play.

I usually go for mag/stam dps, but in some cases I have a third character for a healer, tank or for PvP, or I swap one of the specs for a healer or tank. For my two arcanists I chose the stam spec as dps, and the mag spec as a healer, and I like how they work so far.

It all depends on the class. For Arcanist, I go with PVE DD and PVE Tank. For one of my DKs, its PVE Tank and PVP DD. For my Warden, its PVE Tank and PVE Healer.

You can do whatever you want, just remember you have to carry the gear of the 2nd build around with you, so at some point you will be limited by how many Armory builds you can have on a single character

I have one build per character and will never use the armory for anything other than a furnishing. I hate the idea of always changing and remembering what build I'm using, and do not want to carry gear sets around with me. Plus, since I will never play a tank or healer there is really no reason for me to use it.

I have 1 character per class and then use the armory system for builds. Aiming for 1 PvP build, 1 ranged dps, 1 melee dps, 1 tank and 1 healer for each class

I don't have the armoury at the moment. I have access to a North American server where I currently try different builds. If I like them I recreate them in Europe.

I make them originally one way, the 2nd slot is an afterthought. Like my NB dps was a stamblade but then I wanted a healer/magblade. So I just used the DPS in question because both setups fit him. My arcanist I have all 3 pve roles on because I didn’t get around to making a 2nd arcanist. My goal since armory is to have a mag dps, stam dps, tank, healer of every class using armory but its not gonna happen.

I'm really loving my Arcanist magic tank.
She's Dunmer because I was inspired by a fair skinned icey blue eyed Dunmer on Vardenfell. But I think either Imperial or Breton might be better for sustain.

Having a ranged magicka taunt and a skill that works like dark convergence is fantastic for tanking. Arcanist provides so many buffs and debuffs for the group from class skills that you can afford to wear a couple offensive sets/mythic with Turning Tide.
To me a combination of tank/DD is better than a combination of tank/healer. That being said, if you're doing vet dlc dungeon you probably need to switch around a couple skills and be full tank.

Arcanist healer needs a restoration staff in order to get sufficient healing. But Arcanist tank should be frost staff/sword and shield in my opinion.

Generally it works to use a Stam DD as a Tank and have the Mag DD of the same class as a healer.
With the Armory System it is easy to swap those two specs.

But to drop some criticism here, there are classes where the Stamina and Magicka setups play exactly the same!
Templar, Nightblade and Arcanist use the same spammables, the same DoTs and the same support abilities.
There is no difference in the rotations. None at all. They all feel identical.
So, if you use a hybrid race, like Khajiit or Dark Elf, you will not be held back by that. In these three classed, I only need one character each for all three roles.

Dragonknight is almost the same. You would only use a weapon spammable on the StamDK, instead of Molten Whip. But theoretically you could do so anyway. And so MagDK and StamDK feel the same again. However DK as a Healer is ... well, let's just say you will face challenges, that other classes do not.
If anyone here says: OH! But, PVP! I swear I'll ...

Thank you for the valuable input and respectfully recommend to discuss that aspect of ESO on the PVP forum.

When I had only two slots, I would have one damage and one support role. For stamina characters, they had a stamina damage build and a tank build. For my magicka characters, they had healer and magicka damage.

Nowadays, most of my mains have 5+ armory slots, usually with the following loadouts saved:

    1. Magicka Damage
    2. Healer
    3. Tank
    4. Bow/Bow
    5. DW/2H
    6. PVP or Bash
    7. Skill Reset

I definitely don't go 2 characters per class, simply because some classes are not worth it. For others that have been, or are, fun to play, like NBs and Templars, I definitely have more than 2 of.

With 20 maxed out characters, I tend to give them fixed roles, using the armoury to save different setups for trials, dungeons, solo, etc., rather than switch them between roles.

I have 2 dedicated (trial) tanks, 2 dedicated (trial) healers, a dedicated PVP character for each alliance, and at the moment, 2 dedicated trial DDs. The rest are all self-sufficient solo builds that can go anywhere in the wilds and survive. I'm yet to optimize my Arcanists, of which there are 2, because I only got the expansion during the Necrom event.
