Cursed races in eso

Falmer are cursed, mostly. Orcs are cursed too... Both are Mer.

Dwarves have gone missing? Maybe they are cursed too and became goblins? Goblins look exactly like cursed mer to me. Surely they are mer who were cursed but we have no record of that so maybe they were cursed first? This whole inferior race business just doesnt jive with me. They have all the abilities of any other race in tamriel. Cursed makes def more sense. T

If their origin story involves their patron god being vored alive and being outed in the rear end of another god. I'd say they are cursed alongside their visual appearances, and seeming downgrade in intelligence, high sodium in their veins from their origin story.

Oh, for OP, those false gods worshipping Dunmers are cursed too.

Snow Elves got really screwed. They attacked one city and Nords came back and destroyed all their cities and almost killed them off. Now, majority of them are basically blind goblins with a few unchanged groups hiding out most likely at their temples.

Orcs did too yeah. They were just Aldmer that worshipped Trinimac and then he got manipulated and changed and so did they.

See falmer are basically blind goblins. So why are goblins just cursed dwarves? It fits well with the other cursed races.

Goblins have been on Tamriel during or even before the Dwemer came around though, so there's no connection there.

Bretons were cursed with boring architecture until High Isle came out. They're part elf. Humm, interesting.

Clarification: I didn't say bad or ugly, just boring. Too vanilla.

Wood elves got cursed by "someone" offering them a deal like... "You stop shapeshifting, you stop eating plants, you get nothing good in return, and if you break this deal, you get into living Hell". They accepted.

Given the Dwarves had a timetraveling Giant Robot roughly the size and capacity of the SDF Macross (complete with internal city) and are implied to have had the transmer personality/soul uploads that the clockwork city is experimenting with, they may not have gone missing.

Some of them may in fact be controlling the Dwemer Spiders, Centurions etc from inside the soul crystals we see in them. Others are traveling the distant planes of existence, including the complex time dimensions behind the stars (One of them shows up in ES:Morrowind).

And that is assuming the Dwemer weren't just secretly a knock off Khadjit furstock like the Bosmer.

Orcs = Cursed elves. When the warrior god Trinimac was tranformed by Boethia, all his followers became orcs.
Dunmer = Cursed elves. By following the tribunal and forsaking Asura, their golden skin turned ashen.

Falmer =/= Cursed elves. When the snow elves pleaded with the Dwemer for asylum to escape the Nedic invaders of the north, the Dwemer accepted under one condition: they cannot learn the technologies of the Dwemer, and must blind themselves by consuming the poisonous iridescent mushrooms that grow in the deep caves. Once blinded, they were used as experimental test subjects. Over generations, the Falmer's eyes atrophied and disappeared, and the poison paired with the torture from the Dwemer caused them to become less and less rational until they were nothing more than barbaric beasts.

Falmer weren't cursed. They were systematically broken by the Dwemer.

I don’t think goblins are cursed. Look at rieklings and riekrs, they’re also goblins but different than the green goblins, which implies to me they’re their own species.

Edit: in terms of “inferior races”… it’s subjective. We see everything from the POV of playable races, mostly of the Imperials actually iirc. Minotaur are considered beasts and feared but they were once worshipped, for instance.

While very true about Falmer there is a theory that the Nords were blessed by Sai, the God of Luck, which is the reason why the Nords didn't have many issues fighting the Snow Elves. I mean, even the Snow Prince who killed many Nords, was killed by a little kid who threw a sword and hit him in the right spot.

from UESP on the Sai page: "He became a wanderer and tinker by trade, roaming the world with his grey wolf, Grellan. It was then that he met an unlucky woman named Josea in Skyrim, whom he married and had a child with—"a beautiful baby girl with silver hair, but eyes of cornflower blue". He brought prosperity to the region, which resulted in the Snow Elves being driven from Skyrim and the Nords taking over large parts of Morrowind and High Rock."

Agreed. It's important to remember most of the lore information comes from in-universe sources and TES makes heavy use of the 'unreliable narrator' concept - ranging from people who just don't have all the details to deliberately biased writers going out of their way to make an individual, a group or an entire race look bad.

Simple example: according to many altmer literally everyone else is an 'inferior race', including the dunmer and bosmer. But if you ask many humans they think elves are inferior to humans and that's why they got pushed out of much of the mainland.

Although the assumption that goblins must be cursed because they're so different to men and mer is kind of the same thinking. It's implying that being more human is either the default or some sort of ideal to aspire to and there needs to be justification for the goblins not meeting that standard. Maybe the goblins think they're the superior race and men and mer are failing by not being more like them.

(It reminds me of the Hitchhiker's Guide example: "man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.")

there are no races if all can interbreed. the idea that men and me are different races or have different races of men and mer is itself racist. if all these people can reproduce and interbreed then they are all one race. the only true separate race seems to be argonians who reproduce through eggs and cant interbreed with men and mer and the rest.

They never actually looked like that in a game though. It was concept art and the whole point of concept art is to explore lots of different ideas with the intention of eventually picking one to use. In-game they've always looked pretty much like other elves, even in the later games where there weren't as many technical limitations - in Morrowind the khajiit were pretty drastically revised compared to their almost entirely human appearance in Arena and Daggerfall - but the bosmer just got optional small horns.

You’re thinking of species (ex. Mer), not races (ex. Dunmer). Races can interbreed to mix. What is a species is a kind of loose definition. Largely, if something cannot create viable offspring with something else it’s a different species but there are exceptions. Men and mer come from completely different places. Bosmer and Khajiit come from the same place, different gods. Argonians, goblins, and some others have just always been here.

Besides, we’re talking fantasy. By the views of a single book written by Imperial students, the lore community seems to believe that any offspring will take the race of the mother. Read Racial Phylogeny, that’s the book. If you decide to read the book, note how orcs are not included as elves, despite them being elves (orismer), because of the views of the in-universe authors.

Bretons are also defined as specifically aldmer x nede and thus any given mer and any given man cannot create a Breton. It’s a weird exception to the “rule” of mixed race individuals not existing.

There’s no point arguing that something is racist in TES lore. Everything is. All the races have racial slurs for each other, they all hate each other, they’re all racist.

Race in an fantasy setting is species or sub species, not race like for cats or humans.
And I agree Argonians wold be an special species. Probably Khajiit to, not only different from the humanoids but they have that bizarre furbreeds who if was races would be very extreme, more so than dogs.
And its dependent on the moon phases.
Can Khajiit do family planning selecting the month for their kitten birth? like wanting an Pahmar-raht for help logging or only have room for an Alfiq kid in their small apartment.
Guess so as most are of one race up to Elseweyr and even later some are not seen.
Yes much is down to game limitation but https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Khajiit list living locations for furbreeds who all are around humans sized and has hands.
