ok ---- i have mirri fully leveled and i get her perks even when i am not using her.

i also have ember fully leveled but i do not get her perks when i am not using her.

i thought once they were fully leveled you got their perks even when not using them but it does not work for ember --- wondering if its just me or has anyone else
had this problem ?

Have you done the other things you need to do to get hte achievement for ember and release her perks?

My thieving friends complain about her perks risking taking away a chance to get something nice, so I think they are still working - at least on PS EU. Might be worth raising a ticket if you aren't occasionally getting something when pickpocketing

Ember's perk is a bonus not a replacement. You normally get 3 items from pickpocketing an NPC. If you get an Ember perk item, you should be able to pickpocket NPC 4 times instead of 3. The 3 normal drops + the Ember drop. So it should not take away anything good. What it can do is make it slightly harder to get. Pickpocket chance goes down after each item, so if you go item-item-EmberPerk-item, that last item will have a bit of a lower success chance compared to if it had been 3rd item instead of 4th.

if i am using her it still works ---- but she is max level and rapport so i should still occasionally get the hidden wallet even when i am not using her ---- as i do the extra stuff from mirri when i open a chest and i am not using her --- therein is my problem

I get the extra wallet occasionally, even if Ember is not summoned, so at least for me the perk working. PC EU, last wallet obtained 5 or 6 days ago (last time I went on a pickpocking spree).

How many pockets have you picked trying to get this to come up? It does not happen all that often in my experience.

I tested this today after reading the OP. I do a fair amount of pickpocketing and always do the pickpocketing endeavors. I didn't get a single wallet after doing 100 pickpockets. And in hindsight I'd can't remember the last time I got a wallet from having the ember buff. I think it's been at least 4 months, probably over six months.

So one of two things is going on. Either the system is not working, or ZOS, in true ZOS fashion, reduced the drop rate so low there is functionally no benefit to grinding out for the perk in the first place.

The ember perk never increased the number of items NPC carry. It's always been 3 items/npc. So you pickpocket twice, then assassinate for the third item and the npc respawns more quickly rather than wanders around with empty pockets.

It indirectly increases number of items. The Ember wallet doesn't really count toward the 3 items. So if you get an Ember wallet on first pickpocket, it is like you never pickpocketed and you can still pickpocket 3 regular items (or still pickpocket twice and then assassinate and loot). Or if you get an Ember wallet on second pickpocket, it is like you only pickpocketed once and you can still pickpocket 2 more regular items (or still pickpocket once and then assassinate and loot).

Yes, you can do the classic pickpocket twice then assassinate. And that will get you 3 items. But if you pickpocket 3 times, NPC will sometimes not show as empty and you can pickpocket again. Plus, I don't think you can get an Ember wallet from an assassinate, only a pickpocket. Thus, doing pick-pick-kill misses out on 2 chances at Ember wallet. You miss out on 3rd try by killing instead of pickpocketing, and you miss out on chance that even after stealing 3 regular items, you might be able to steal again for an Ember wallet

I basically steal until the NPC shows as empty and then assassinate. This is a bit of a pain because pickpocket success rate keeps going down and you now have to do the lower percentage 3rd or 4th pick instead of the easier first 2 picks then kill. But pickpocket until empty and only kill at that point is the method to maximize your Ember wallets.

turns out i was slightly incorrect.

someone above asked if i had completed all of ember's requirements and it turns out i had not pickpocketed a guard.

did that first thing and got her letter and permanent perk.

i pickpocketed ten people after that and still didnt get it but that is also too small of a sample size to tell if it is working correctly .

thank you all for the help and for pointing out my idiocy lol

After reading this post I opened up ember and went and pickpocketed a guard. The note next to the inspiration bar for ember said I already had the perk, but the third NPC I pickpocketed after the guard awarded a wallet. Ember made a funny comment when I pickpocketed the guard too. "Not a very good guard, are they" ....or something pretty close to that.
