How to increase drop rate of companion items?

I have so many companions but the drop rates for purples are so low

at the moment, all you can do is kill enemies while you have an active companion. there are no other modifiers for now

Agree. They need to be upgradable. The drop rate is low and the price of well traited Companion items is ridiculous

and then there is still the matter of legendary quality companion gear that hasn't really been introduced yet.

i'd guess that a dev would have to tweak some numbers in a database.

Kill more targets that drop loot. Higher difficulty enemies have better drop chance, quality is random.

there is 1 legendary quality companion gear item, but it is non-tradeable and was given out as a bonus from an event, so its there just not really widely available yet

to the OP, my companions are using a mix of blue and purple gear, not even with 100% ideal traits, and they still function decently

could they be optimized more? sure, but i dont really see a huge point in min-maxing a companion

Min/maxing companions is just like min/maxing your character. Yes it's not required but it does make harder content easier. I have guildies that use companions in vet dungeons and trials and they've put in the gold and effort to make them as effective as possible.

i know, but the biggest issue with companions that limits their effectiveness way more than their gear is their AI

yeah ideally i would like more quickened purple gear for my companions, but i dont really notice a huge difference between the more or less optimized companions

they still die too frequently because of mechanics that they plain have no idea how to handle, or cant handle

ive used had my companion pop up in trials (normal or vet), and do use them to help solo dungeons, but 9/10 times they end up dying seconds into most fights because they cant handle the mechanics or dmg

the newer dungeons with the bosses that have conal dot sprays that need to be blocked through, the companions are too dumb to block through those and so they will die every time, which limits their use as tanks in those dungeons (earthen root, bal sunnar, scriveners hall), other dungeons that have large aoe dmg where you need to be in a specific spot to avoid dmg they will die because they arent smart enough to do mechanics (black drake villa, castle thorn)

it doesnt matter how much you min/max the companion because their basic AI will fail them in most cases
