What does the Flesh Heap in Wayrest Sewers II do?

There is a Flesh Heap by the Zombies in the area near the last boss that I can interact with once all the zombies are defeated, but what does it do? Clicking "E" makes me stomp on it but I don't see anything else happening. Anyone know what this is about?

stops the zombies from infinitely spawning. if you don't stamp it out then they keep spawning

No... I'm not sure what purpose it serves, but they do not keep spawning if you don't stomp on the heap.

I think it was to respawn zombies if the group wiped trying to get hardmode

It was there in normal Wayrest II.

Wow. I don’t know how many times I’ve done wayrest II. Loads though. Never seen it.

It's over to the right of the final bosses, past that building in a dead end area. There are a lot of neutral zombies and if you defeat them all this Flesh Heap shows up. You can target it with E and it makes you stomp on it. My friend and I were both able to do it.

Back in the days, Wayrest 1 was normal and 2 was vet. Maybe they never bothered to remove it from normal.
