Needed to be a stipulation like with how Guild Wars 2 does it... if you don't have a paid version of the game you shouldn't be able to whisper or use zone chat. You should need to buy the base game or the current latest expansion if you acquired the game for free in order to use those functions.

if so, How does your F2P who is not part of a Guild sell anything? Or are we saying they are not allowed to ?

It seems to be increasing these last days. Sad is, if it keeps going, that's because it's lucrative. Otherwise, they would stop. It means that a big enough amount of players use their site unfortunately. :/

Edited for a side note: I'm in game right now and they're spamming in Auridon chat.

Yeah, I noticed it a lot more while I was doing treasure maps... It seems they rotate through some of the most populated places/starter zones. I always gravitate towards Vulkhel Guard for writs/banking. Auridon and Bleakrock Isle are two places and if my memory serves me, Stonefalls and Khenarthi's Roost. I think you can wayshrine to all those places with a fresh character, right? I doubt they'd go out of their way to get every wayshrine in every zone. That's probably how it works though - clockwise rotation through all wayshrines that are available to a new character. I'll have a look next time. B)

I just want to say thanks for letting me know how this is done. The whole crafting route is dry and boring and takes up a lot of time. this sounds way better. much appreciated. kinda surprised zos hasnt moved this thread to players helping players.

Gold sellers has nothing to do with players helping other players. Its instead the exact opposite.

Selling gold for real world money (gold sellers and their websites/advertising) is a well known scam in the online gaming world. Don't take the risk of getting your account compromised.

If this post were in the Players helping Players category, then it would be asking "how do I avoid gold sellers" and "what should I do about this" in the title and description. So that way other players can give advice and information of how to handle the problem.

Technically this post fits into two other categories so it is fine for general discussion.

The only way to combat gold sellers effectively is to ban the buyers.

Otherwise the sellers just buy a new account.

ZOS probably have the ability to check chat logs between the gold seller and other players. I'm not sure if being curious is enough for a ban but perhaps by monitoring the player afterwards, upon seeing a large sum of gold being added to their inventory, a case could be made. A lot of work though I guess. Maybe having some gamemasters would help.

The gold sellers aren't selling gold in chat; they're advertising websites where players can go buy gold and crowns outside of the game using (I assume) their credit cards. And I'm sure their credit card information is 100% safe and secure during the transaction and afterwards. [/sarcasm]

Presumably the buyers receive their purchased gold via in-game mail, and I've seen at least one ESO streamer who said they'd got an auto-ban for sending large amounts of gold to viewers who'd won in-stream giveaways, so ZOS must have systems in place for detecting suspicious amounts of gold being mailed and auto-banning the suspected gold sellers. The streamer who said she'd been auto-banned said she had to file a ticket with Support so her situation could be reviewed, after which she was able to get her account back. But actual gold sellers probably just create new accounts rather than filing tickets to get their old accounts unbanned-- and if they do file tickets, a review of their accounts would presumably show that they are indeed gold sellers rather than legitimate players.

They definitely just make new accounts. "Goldy" (not naming full name due to forum rules and not to advertise them) is on PS NA every single day in multiple zones hawking their website. The account name is always just slightly different - some new numbers or extra underscores, etc - but always the same general format to advertise their website so you know who it is every time, despite the slight change to account name. I always assume that happens because the previous account was banned but, like a hydra, chop off one head and five more pop up in its place.
