Need help with sets for my MagSorc and MagCro

JulLeBarge
Hi everyone !

I need some help to find the best combination of sets for my two magicka characters, a sorcerer and a necromancer.
Both are used for PvE only and the goal is to be able to play group content up to normal trial and vet dungeons (non DLC), with random people.
I'm not looking for the best meta sets you can have, just something that can work great without having to farm for hours. I don't have ESO+ right now and I'm not planning to get it soon, and I don't have Blackwood, High Isle and Necrom chapters. So I can't farm most of the BiS gear, but I think it's not a problem for the type of content I plan to do.
I don't have any mythic items so I must go for a traditionnal 5/5/2 build. I have most of the classics monsters sets like Zaan, Maw of Infernal, Iceheart... I don't have the Kjalnar’s Nightmare.

The thing is, these two types of characters share the same gear on builds websites, to I need to decide how to equip them without having to switch gear between characters.

Here is the sets I currently have at my disposal:
- Mother's Sorrow
- Relequen
- Mantle of Siroria
- Kinras’s Wrath
- False God’s Devotion
- Aegis Caller
- Briarheart
- Tzogvin’s Warband
- Medusa

My main character is able to craft anything if needed. I also have Maelstrom weapons.

How can I mix these sets to have 2 working characters ? And should I stay with 2 staves or use daggers at front bar like I've seen on various build ?

Thanks for the help !

I'm not a vet PVE'er or anything, but you've currently chosen the 2 worst performing Magicka classes. Especially Necromancer.

    Focus more on the magsorc.

Mag Arcanist and mag Dragon Knight are much better if you're open to starting another character.

First time I read that. Are you sure ?
On Alcast website, Mag NB, Sorc and Necro are the 3 best DPS in his tier list:

I'm not a crazy good PvE'r by any means, but necro is certainly fine in PvE. PvP is where they might as well delete the class - it's useless in that environment.

Regardless of any tier list or anyone's opinions on the matter, for 99% of players, any class can perform any role well (in PvE). The only time it starts to really matter is if you're score pushing, and based on your post, I'd imagine you don't care about that much.

As for resources, Alcast is fine as a baseline (don't worry about people saying that his site is trash, he's just not necessarily going to have BiS setups). Other great resources are SkinnyCheeks (the best resource for BiS PvE builds and rotations imo), and ArzyeL (similar to Alcast, lots of general information and good baseline builds).

I would definitely recommend SkinnyCheeks though, he does a great job of thoroughly explaining every aspect of the build, so that you can modify things to your personal tastes or farming ability, and he also provides alternative setups that are easier to farm but still optimized.

I’m more of a casual PvE’er lately but the out of the sets you listed the ones that stand out to me are: Kinras’s, false god and mothers sorrow.

Definitely check out the websites people listed though too for more information. I also like Deltia’s Gaming site too. Good luck!

From the sets you have in your disposal you can choose one critical chance set for each character. Since you also have different trial sets lets choose at least one of those for each character as well to have Minor Slayer buff.

I would say go with Tzogvin and False God for Sorcerer. I would also recommend using False God on body to be on light armor since it is not guarantee that your random tank will have pen sets or appropriate enchants for penetration. For monster Maw of Infernal will be good for Sorcerer.

For Necromancer you can go with Medusa and Relequen or Siroria. If you choose to go with Relequen you will be on medium armor since Medusa is a heavy set and it is recommended to use it as Jewelry and weapons. But using one piece heavy armor would not hurt for the contents you are planning to do. Monster could be anything you have.

Both builds can run either Maelstrom Bow or Inferno Staff.

I've checked Skinnycheeks recommendations for these 2 classes and I think I'll go with either Relequen/Aegis Caller for Sorc and Azureblight Reaper / Briarheart for Necro. I'll also try False's God/Medusa for my sorc, it's not in the recommended sets on Skinny website but my aim is to do PUG dungeons, no optimized trials, I need sustain. And it was the previous meta.

The tag for that page says Blackwood and the copyright at the bottom puts it in 2021. So that might explain this. It's just 2 years old.

Apart from that I would recommend False God's for both classes. The other set should be something with a lot of crit chance. Tzogvin and Medusa are good for both, if you do not have enough barspace for an ability with minor force.

Ideally you buy yourself a complementing set of Order's Wrath. Or you ask in one of your guilds if someone has the workbenches at his home and then craft it yourself. Might be cheaper.
Or guild halls of good guilds usually have those workbenches standing around somewhere.

Maw is very good for Sorc, if you use Daedric Prey in your build, but not otherwise.
Alsi consider using two one pieces of Slimecraw and Iceheart. That is a considerable amount of crit chance.

Also consider Pillar of Nirn as backbar option instead of the Maelstrom staff. Its really powerful.
If anyone here says: OH! But, PVP! I swear I'll ...

Thank you for the valuable input and respectfully recommend to discuss that aspect of ESO on the PVP forum.

Honestly, drop all of those sets and go grind out two easy to get sets:

Seargant's mail and Storm Master. Get Seargant's lightning staff, 2 jewelry pieces, and the Chest piece. Then get storm master's body pieces. Add in the Oakensoul ring and 1 piece light Slimecraw.

This build gets 70k+ DPS without even trying on a 2 pet sorc. Doesn't matter that mag sorcs are on the down side of the meta, it is still fun and super survivable.

If all you are doing is normal trials and non-DLC dungeons, Mother's Sorrow and Tzvogins/Medusa are what I would roll with. Siroria is great if you are doing stationary boss fights. I'd pair that with Mother's Sorrow. False God's is okay, and a set I would use if you run into sustain issues
