As far as needing to be familiar enough with Craglorn to figure out the best routes to follow for the most portals in the least time, that's probably not terribly important inasmuch as players need to be grouped with a guildie, and it's likely that most of the guilds out there have at least a few well-established players who can help the newbies in that respect.
The loot we get from the boxes are low level cooking recipes for the most part. So not really juicy, Craglorn can stay as far as my opinion goes, guildmate or not.SeaGtGruff wrote: »Well, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that ZOS didn't anticipate that Craglorn portal grinding was going to be a thing this year, that (as usual) it was the players who figured out the best way to reliably farm the most coffers in the least time.

They did. Just that players who didn't, do that now at the cost of other nerfed loot events, and probably ZoS didn't know the Craglorn thing, because if they knew that, they would have nerfed it as well.Players were grinding Craglorn like that last year as well.

Players were grinding Craglorn like that last year as well. I know because I did it both years. The Harrowstorms and such were more popular than Craglorn last year because they dropped their own good loot and were easier to get as many people in as possible. I did Craglorn often anyway because the loading screens made it more difficult to farm the storms, but sometimes I couldn't get Craglorn groups as only storm groups were available.
This year there's less people in Craglorn than there was at the storms last year as some guilds are grinding the world bosses instead.

They did not nerf World Bosses. Rifts are world bosses, not world events. It's not really a bypass as they didn't nerf all of the activities. World bosses and arenas function the same as they did before.

You also have a chance to earn a Zenithar’s Delightful Parcel box when conquering each round of a group-based arena challenge while teamed up with a player who is a member of at least one of your guilds. Additionally, the final round’s reward chest contains a guaranteed parcel.

I'm not trying to argue that one way is better or worse than the other; I just find it ironic that despite seriously nerfing the daily number of coffers you can get from daily crafting writs and master writs under the guise of wanting to prevent the amount of coffer grinding that went on last year, they simultaneously added a different way to basically accomplish the same thing if not more so.
However, your comment about the cost involved in doing master writs actually suggests a different possible reasoning for the change-- namely, last year it would have been more difficult for players to rake in the coffers if they didn't have a ton of master writs saved up, and/or didn't know the specific crafting styles and/or traits on the requested types of items, and/or didn't have the necessary mats and/or temps and/or style mats and/or trait mats, and/or didn't have a large amount of gold with which to buy master writs and/or crafting motif pages and/or mats. So last year's way of doing it basically made it very difficult if not outright impossible for new players or poor players to rake in a lot of coffers.
In contrast, this year's approach allows brand-new players who have no gold, no mats, and no crafting skills to rake in a lot of coffers to the extent that only certain players were able to do last year.

They added nothing for new players, they only took away to punish master crafters.

That drop chance is nasty! Or there are hidden cooldowns.

Finally finished that endeavor today (split between 3 or 4 days). 125 items - no reward box. Not a single one!
Apart from one Deadlands treasure map, the boxes have dropped nothing but junk this year. Not even worth grinding the boxes this time around.

IIRC last year we got housing recipes for the most part from the boxes. Now that was juicy. SO this event was nerfed two times, the % drops (except Craglorn) and the quality loot. Would have needed to be nerfed only once imo.
But good they nerfed master writs to 7 per day, because I dont really want to collect them the year going and make my inventory full just for this event, I'd hate that. (even if I did that this year, not knowing the nerf)
