Does the arcanist fatecarver work like an automatic weapon?

If I bind it to my right mouse button do I have to press and hold it to keep channeling? Will beam stop channeling if I let go of the button?

It should continue until over, you star blocking or change bar or at the veri least its like that with a controller

You click it and you can move around while it blasts everything between you and the end of the beam. You want to be a lighthouse and spin around you can do that, you can aim it at the sky and hit targets above you, you can aim it at the ground if you want to hit only a specific target, you can move forward with it so it catches more targets. Beware about crossing beams with another Arcanist, bad things happen like, nothing, nothing happens when you cross beams.

You don't have to hold it. Press it once and it goes until it the duration ends. It ends early if you're interrupted or you press block (which you'll want to do sometimes to stop the channel so you can do other actions).

I have noticed that fanning a group of mobs seems to be more effective than one a time. If course kiting them to line up single file is even better. But the MOBs are kind of like herding cats.

But yea, the beams for all the skills that channel are push once then point until you cancel or the timer runs out.
