Opt out Mudballs/Pie

I'd like to see an option to opt out of being a valid target for mudballs and the thrown pie. Its bad enough during the events, but when people camp out in town throughout the year, and randomly throw them its obnoxious. I would like to see an opt out of being a target. The mudballs and pie act as interrupts, which force you to stop what you are doing (ie crafting or whatever). Can we get an opt out option or at least remove the interrupt effect of these items?

    Yes I'd like this option.
I can ignore these mudballers, but it should be better if I could avoid that stupid behaviour of my character when hit.

maybe make it a toggle for players who dont wanna be mudballed? like you can still get mudballed or pied for the sake of the achievements some players might be hunting for but it wont show for you and interrupt your task/emote if you have it toggled on. theres 2 holiday achievements that require throwing pies at other players and they might want those achievements but find it more difficult if a large amount of the player base cant be targetted. the achievements are The Three Fillings War and Messy Business

in my personal experience of mudballing my friends the game marks them as an invalid target when theyre in a menu such as dialogue or crafting. you could also have combat pets and companions following you around if you feel like youre being targetted for mudballs/pies which will obstruct the mudballers view of you

That behaviour is about as annoying as when other players cast some kind of spell on your character that makes it unsheathe its weapon. That's also trolling.

How do they interrupt player activities? I toss mud at individuals who are way-shrining and it has no effect on their traveling. The only thing is that it's an animation which to my knowing, has no bearing on what someone may actually be doing outside of customizing themselves; whish in that case- yes, would be a mild annoyance.

What about throwing food or candy at other players that may give them a random buff or debuff. I would ROFL 🤣.

In world of warcraft and guild wars 2 they both got silly gadgets that turn other players into random critters, paintballs that dye another player a random color, and clone another player's appearance.

I remember sneaking around in town throwing random stuff at highly ranked or popular players and it dyed one of the players neon purple and another one into a chicken. 😆. It was in either guild wars 2 or world of warcraft I did it, could of been both.

Being able to opt out of that silly stuff would be a huge boon, especially for the RP community.

I don't get why game devs always have to force it on people who don't want it, not only here but in other MMORPGs as well.

Too little, too late. There is an overabundance of options with which to inflict yourself on other players now. Annoying emotes, overly bright and loud effects on mounts and weapon styles, and so forth. ZOS actively supports harassment by adding such tools with no way to block them.

I have a friend that used to toss the flower wreath on me every time I saw him. I hate that more than any of them and it took awhile of me complaining but he finally stopped.

Some of us aren't into cutesy things and we shouldn't be required to be a target for those that are.

How about you just block and it reflects the mudball or the pie?

At least the pie is colorful. The affect only lasts about 5 seconds, so it's not to big a deal, is it?

Just increase cooldown on some momentos. Keeps everyone happy. Starting a huge mudball fight can be really fun though... Or maybe make it only usable in the month of December/New Life festival. I dunno.

I can see how people viscerally hate it. I personally don't impose myself on others outside normal circumstances if I can help it.

But I secretly love the squelchy sound of a mudball hitting my character. People think they're trolling me, but actually they are triggering some deep ASMR for me I can't explain. Gives me insane frisson every time.
But only if I am the target.
Part of it being unexpected the other is the mud squick sound being so satisfying to me. It's bizarre I know.

But those mudslingers must know they are making people angry... but other victims might have a very weird and different reaction they definitely were not counting on.

It's why I always have a mudball pouch slotted on my quick wheel.
      1. Fight back, bait them into a back and forth.
      2. Run around like you're trying to "avoid" their throws
      3. Run past random guards.
      4. Stand and lol at them when they pelt a guard instead of you. >:)

I really appeciated the level of maturity on pc when i came over from xbox a few years ago, it kinda freaked me out at first that i could actually understand zonechat now. I really fear this type of behaviour has made its way over from console, i really hope pc doesnt get dumbed down it would be a real shame. Ive read on these forums about parents letting under 10 year olds play now, so this could really be a sign of whats to come.

      Absolutely yes.

I remember when I first started playing and had no idea about mudballs. Here I am am sneaking about a delve on a dangerous adventure and some high level fool is following me around pelting me with mudballs. Enraged and completely disengaged my experience. Years later even knowing what is happening triggers me.

What makes you think it isn't adults currently doing these things? You'd be surprised.

I have no doubt that some adults are the culprits for annoying activities. This reality does not change my thought on embracing an environment that keeps minors and adults separate. Would a dev add such an activity if they knew the audience were all adults? Perhaps...?

I wonder if the price point of ESO and its goodies doesn't do that already somewhat.
I would never have touched this game even as an Elder Scrolls fan as a poor student and much less as a teenager.
Being an adult with income makes pricier games and frivolous spending a lot less painful.

Is this a server specific issue? I'm on pc eu and barely see anyone throwing mudballs or cakes randomly around, even in social hubs.

The only exception to that are flappysorcs which refuse to despawn their eyesore in towns. But as we're all civilized people here, I assume nobody here is practicing this form of harassment either.

I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

Also, I gotta say, throwing a mudball at someone isn't harassment. It's only harassment if the person asks you to stop or obviously doesn't want to participate and you keep hitting them with it. While I support a toggle, I think it's important to remember that mudballs are a part of the game. People aren't harassing anyone because they want to play the game as it's designed.

They definitely should have a toggle for people who don't want to opt in. But there's also people who quite enjoy it, and a lot of fun, spontaneous fun to be had with them. These are social tools to have fun with friends and break ice with strangers. The guild I have been in the longest? I joined because of a spontaneous mudballs fight. The guild leader didn't want to be mudballed and asked she not be, so I didn't mudball her again. Her officers on the other hand got into a big mudball battle with me and my friend. We all had a good time tossing mudballs and discussing fashion. They asked me to join their guild and I did and I've been a member for years now.

A toggle aides both the groups of players who just want to be able to enjoy some silly fun and the people who hate them. The ones that enjoy throwing them can be more sure that the people they can throw them are at the least indifferent or maybe even enjoy them. And the ones that don't like them don't have to deal with it. Win, win.
