Having to create a new character to experience new combat abilities gets tiresome, whereas I feel most people just want to progress their “main” character.

I have three accounts. Each account has a "main" - but I have many other characters on each account (both PC megaservers) and all those many alts get a lot of playtime.

I like alts. I make lots of alts. I play my gobs of alts. I have many friends who play this game, and they also have lots of alts. Other than those on this forum who say they play only one character, I personally don't know anyone who does that.

    Altoholics FTW!

I have 2 of each class, both magicka and stamina from before Hybrid because there are definitive “best” classes for different roles.

How many of your characters have every quest done, every lorebook found, every Psijiic Portal closed, 5 stars in PvP, both Scrying and Excavation level 10, Legerdemain level 20, Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild maxed out, and every skill point…

How about mount training, or traits researched, and style pages learned for master writ crafting?

Most players have a main character that they prioritize those things on, and would play only that character to progress their story as they have invested countless hours into them, and have alts that sit around untill you need a Zens DK, EC Cro, or a Warden Tank for Unchained runs.

If instead of new classes, we got the skill lines of those classes as general ones for everyone, those same people you mentioned wouldn’t have a need for alts, where currently there is a need.

    So far:

    Summerset
    Elsweyr (north and south combined)
    Necrom

Maybe Necrom will rise above Elsweyr when I finish it.

This is me, for sure. I have tonnes of alts, for different reasons; but my main (which I've had since 2014) is the only one that really matters at the end of the day, and represents my sense of continuity and investment in the game as it goes forward. Its my "one true playthrough", and the only one I've done all the zone stories on.

IMO Wrothgar should be included in this poll.

It's a chapter in all but name.
174 characters and counting over 13 accounts.

I voted Greymoor, it might be due to nostalgia but it's definitely the chapter I have spent most of my time in.

I think we can almost unanimously agree that the chapters up to about 2020 were much better in writing and plot than anything that has been released in the last couple years, possibly excluding Necrom.

The only thing I'm surprised with is Vvardenfell getting bit lower than Elsweyr but other than that it's a perfect representation of quality decline.

Summerset. Really the morrowind->Clockwork->Summerset story is amazing.

Necromancer story is good too, but Necrom suffers from not having much to do when the story is complete.

I suspect that is because of the whole dragons thing... people were asking for dragons to make an appearance basically since release. Personally, I wish they hadn't done dragons to keep it more in line with established lore, but what's done is done.

Plus more desirable class (that fits lore bit more) and khajiiti land people were asking since forever, yeah.

It's just that I remember people started noticing serious problems with storytelling since that release, it was almost a non issue before that.

I can't decide between Summerset and Morrowind. Both have a major problem that I like Orsinium better. First TES game I played was TES III and Vvarderfall zone in ESO has so many doors chained it kills nostalgia for me. Summerset is good I guess but for some reason I don't find High Elves that interesting. The rest would be amazing DLCs if included in ESO+ but as paid expansions I'm glad I've managed to stick in my principle of waiting for sale for (most) gaming related purchases.

That's not my idea of fun. That's making a game into a job. I'm retired, I don't need a job, and I love my collection of different girls. I have 11 at CP 160; there will be others eventually. No rush, it's a game.

Orsinium is the best for me.
Though is not a Chapter. Best story so far, unique flora and fauna, plus the amazing Maelstrom Arena

      SPOILERS ahead.
      you are warned
From this Chapters list i would probably say: Morrowind, as, again, it is very much nostalgic. Great zone, excellent side quests chains (though the main story could be different. The God to be fooled by a puppy. seriously?)
It is closely followed by Summerset with quite exciting story and beautiful visuals.

The fourth place belongs to Elsweyr as you remember who Khamira is, but hardly remember the dragons' name. And no, it is not Alduin.
The most predictable was the Greymoor story. Closely followed by the High Isle.
The Blackwood story was quite forgettable for me. Could you remember the names of the Councilors? Who was Keshu the Black Fin? And i was so much disappointed in Eveli.
I don't have Necrom yet to compare. And it should take quite some time to do the side quests (if any).

At the moment I think my vote will go to Elsweyr. I bought ESO when Elsweyr was the latest Chapter and it was the first zone I played through, so I think a part of me simply favours Elsweyr in polls like this because it was my first experience with ESO and I had a blast figuring out how the game worked at the time. That said, I played through both Northern and Southern Elsweyr a year or two later with a Khajiit alt and I still liked it a lot.

The reason I haven't voted yet though is because I still haven't done much questing in Necrom. I definitely like the things I've done thus far though (the Delves, Public Dungeons, World Bosses and a couple of Bastion Nymics), and I enjoy the Arcanist in PVE too. So if I really like Necrom's Side Quests and Main Quests too, it might just become my favourite Chapter.

Anequina is gorgeous, I loved getting to see more Khajiiti society and lore. Queen Khamira, loved her but admittedly cringed at the purring "Hmm"s with her dialogue. No other Khajiit does that so it makes me think it was purely for "Look at me I'm a cat" value. At the same time, this girl hissed at a Dragon. She is DEFINITELY my characters Queen.

It does sound like a job, doesn’t it? Exactly why adding more content to the game for existing players is nice, it keeps it less job-like, and more roleplay friendly for those of us that have years invested into characters.

If the Arcanist skills were baked into skill lines for everyone, you could have made a Herma Mora worshipping Sorcerer using those skill lines and started over a new character if that’s what you like doing, while people that don’t want that, could simply add the skills to their existing characters.

Like rolling an alt that is a Psijiic, with the Summerset skill line, regardless of what class you picked.
