I always kill what I aggro, but I know what you mean. Invincible mobs, which are returning to their spawnpoint can be quite annoying.
On the other side I'm always watching with a smile, when a player is obliterated by the horde he pulled, because he guessed the distance of the chain wrong or ran into a dead end. That also happens quite often.

And when I run past these mobs I am not pulling them away... they are chasing me.

As I said, you are free to do what you want.
I'm just left with the mess.

There is no mess. These mobs won't touch any other player until they are back in their spot and get aggroed.

But I don't have to take the time to play a way I don't enjoy on the off chance that there may be another player in the area that has different priorities than me.

Nobody is saying you do. Again, just be aware that your behaviour might be annoying to others, that's all. I'm sure I occasionally do stuff that irritates other players too. Doesn't mean I'm a jerk, and you running past mobs and pulling them doesn't mean you're a jerk. But you said you didn't understand how it negatively affects others, and I explained how it can negatively affect others, is all.

This is a consequence of playing an MMO. That is unfortunate but no one should have to change the way they enjoy because someone else doesn't like it.
