New weapons are badly needed

What's really hindering my enjoyment of creating a new character is picking between destro staff, 2H, and dual wield again. It's just so tired. I have a S&B character too but for offense there's truly just three options.

The problem with adding new weapons is that it is likely a LOT of work adding new items to all of the loot tables. They'd have to not only add a new skill line, but also update crafting tables and loot tables across all content. That's likely much easier said than done.

IDC about new weapons, but I would open up a one way portal to my bank account if they released a cosmetic that would give 2 handed weapons one handed animations and proportions. So I can get that sweet finesse duelist drip without destroying my build.

Bow is underperforming when compared to the other three. It needs a buff to compete, honestly.

    - no-weapon (like gauntlets, etc)

a staff of curses would be a good solution, which would weaken enemies, impose dots and give good control, but lore defenders will now run in and shout that such a weapon contradicts the scrolls, forgetting that they are playing an MMO game, and that the lore is quite flexible when it comes to adding something insignificant that does not affect on the global history and so on, especially since many mobs have different effects from a staff attack, red, purple, necro turquoise and so on, but this does not bother them, strange guys :/

I would love more variety of weapons to be added.

Here's what I suggested to be added for new weapon types

    1. Battle (2-handed melee) staff
    2. Throwing knives and shuriken
    3. Fist weapons
    4. Long sharp claws (kahjiit and lizard only)
    5. War fans (tessen)
    6. Pole arms
    7. short staves *dual wield- one handed melee staves*
    8. Giant war hammers
    9. 2 handed battle axe

    Also for weapon skins/textures/appearance ideas

    1.Iridescent and holographic colors
    2.translucent textures (crystal, glass-like)
    3. Elemental textures like stone, lava, fire, storm, ice, water, leaves, vines, wood, like textures
    4. Candy, paper, food like skins
    5. Glowing and sparkly with glitter going everywhere
    6. Cyber/steam punk like weapon skins

This is a fantasy game so let's get more creative weapons, weapon skins, and skill lines.

    I’d love a no-weapon/ hand-to-hand skill line.

My arcanist is currently playing dual wield daggers (as small as I can make them) because it's as close as I can get to feeling "empty handed" without nerfing my character too hard.

So tbh, I think it is not about new Weapon Skill Lines. It's more about a new Guild/Overworld Skill line. Like Psijiik last time.

I am waiting for a long time now to integrate "Illusionist" Spells, based on Skyrims Lore.

I hoped also they would make an Illusioner Class, but they decided to create an Arcanist, which does not seem to fit into the World of ESO at all. The spells are a bit to scatchy and the neon-green light is never seen like this before.

So what would Illusionist do, you could for example
    - cast your own Weapons (like 2h, DW, Staffs... in a holographic Style)
    - harm specific enemies for a period of time and let them fight for you like pets
    - CC Enemies, set enemies to "Sleep" for a period of time
    - make a target go "crazy" and let it attack friendlies
    - bonus chance to find "hints" "treasure maps" and get a "lightning path" to the next treasure chests, ressources in a
    - "Muffle" move more quietly for a period of time but without being in sneak (like if you go into a House, people think you are not there)

These are just some Ideas of mine and like I said they are based on the Illusionist Spell line of "Skyrim", ofc you can also do something else, what do you think about it?

You could easily add 3 staves and still keep the current skill line :

-Flamethrower staff, fire damage, melee range (7 meters), channelled heavy attack that hits everything in a cone in front of you.
-Arctic staff, same as above but with cold damage instead
-Thunder staff, standard 28 meter range, heavy attack summons a lightning bolt that falls from the sky (in a small AoE around the target if the tri elemental passive is taken).

I'd pay for new weapons as a dlc/chapter. My husband would probably purchase it twice... As long as he stops talking about it. lmao

Seems like he rants to me about it at least once a week about how the game has been lacking weapon options, for years... Wait. He has. lol

1H+Spell and Spears/Battlestaves are the 2 most simple options, especially since the animations for combat are all mostly there, the weapons are still there, etc. It would also really look good with the new Arcanist class, even though we don't agree with how this game forces classes.

I care more about the new combat options going foreward than the new story/map/dungeon dlc's at this point. They seem to just be rehashing a lot of old stuff for fast+easy money instead of major updates that would give good reason to bring back retired players along with the new ones.

The problem with adding new weapons is that it is likely a LOT of work adding new items to all of the loot tables. They'd have to not only add a new skill line, but also update crafting tables and loot tables across all content. That's likely much easier said than done.

Not only that but they would have to add to each and every Style and motif as well. For that reason I believe Matt said in an interview or dev chat new weapons were not going to happen.

I think 1h rune as a hybrid magicka or stamina cost scaling weapon line makes more sense now because of the new arcanist tech. It also appeals to stamina and magicka dps players as opposed to a purely magic or stamina weapon.

As others have said, a no weapon or a single one hand weapon are really the only options for new weapon skill lines as they won't require redoing drops for literally everything in the entire game

But they could always add more "guilds" and skill lines, could even redo the psijic line to not be an almost complete waste to start with and the dark brotherhood to have melee based combat skill

ZoS have stated it will not happen. The problem is not the skill design. It’s the amount of work involved in modeling all of the existing motifs for a new weapon. They could split up Destro staves into three distinct weapon lines and then add a fourth staff that focuses on Magic Damage and Disease Damage. This would be easier and open up build options a lot. Alternatively, adding out of class skill lines that are not mostly novelty which nearly all have been thus far is another strategy,

It is never impossible... ZOS has alot of opportunities to add new Spelllines/Skills into the game.

We are also waiting years now for a new (Mythic/Artifact) Itemslot which would be perfect as a Cloak / Cape.

Another gamechanging implementation would be swimming, diving and flying mounts.. also something players asked for alot. But seems like the Game Engine/Coding is so bad, that it would crash the server if they add vertical movements.

To do a new weapon they would have to add a weapon model for every style currently in the game, add the weapon to every loot table with weapons, add special effects to every arena, create passives for the weapon, create skills for the weapon.
  • Sikon

@thedoodle_90 these are just excuses for me.. if you developing something new, you can manage to do it if you want. Just need to use more creativity.
e.g. I ask myself first: "Why should they need new models for every motif/style" "Why did they force themselves even in such a system?" - I would not care for it be creative...

Make a new Weapon based on a fixed style like Monstersets in Dungeons.. they look everytime the same and you will recognize the player directly if he uses the new weapon line. It's completely okay for me.

They could even make the weaponskilline unlocked by farming them like monstersets or digging them out or find them in treasure maps.. there are so many ways..

just say it's not possible because we are forced in a basegame old system is not the way to improve the game.

    I'd like to see:

Un-armed/Hand-To-Hand: Has been in previous Elder Scrolls games.

Chemist: Use poisons/potions you create & throw them at enemies.

Tome/Book: Use of Conjuration magic & Illusion magic.

    Orb: Use of Mysticism magic.

    Bo-Staff: Battle mage combat.

    Lance/Spear: Could introduce mounted combat.
