Icy Rage vs Ice Comet vs Northern Storm

Why use Icy Rage over Ice Comet?

You could argue that Icy Rage is for AoE and Comet for single target, but most trash pulls die before Icy Rage does its job and many players tend to save their ultimate for bosses.

I think Icy Rage could have a small change that would help it compete. Maybe have it apply Chilled on every tick?

Also, where does Northern Storm fit vs the above options? It seems that it is left in the dust by both as the added spell damage does not make up for it.

for me, icy rage cuz have larger radius, good for those elite mobs in trial trash pulls
for everything else, i just use bear
northern seems more pvp oriented

I think I tried to look at the difference before and destro was better. It also just looks cool. That said, I only use it over bear when bear is not so helpful.

if you had the other morph of the meteor, then that would be better because of the ult restore for how many mobs you hit

i use ice comet in pvp because of the higher burst dmg

I use northern storm as my primary offensive ultimate in pvp. With balorghs and that ultimate alone I can reach way above 7k damage even on my Breton and the extra ticks of damage and a potential snare only feed into my build concept. The only downside for me is that it puts a huge reg circle around me that my enemies can see charging in from miles away.

Extra strong effect. That's more in sleet storm's favor. Major Brittle as a group buff is more in favor for icy rage as the staff already applies minor brittle

2% max magicka and magicka recovery isn't hugely impactful. The ultimate is good though.

I don't think applying chilled on every hit is wise. Not for Icy Rage or Sleet Storm. For PvE this would only help magdens because nobody else uses an ice staff for dps. I don't know if this would put them on par with other classes or not, but I fear it would be too strong in PvP. Chilled procs are a decent bit of damage. It would be a big buff.

But it is an Ultimate. Hardly something spammable, and as for it being more deadly. It should be. The immobilize isn’t enough of a sell in PvP when Ice Comet can nuke someone down way faster.

How about it applied both Major Brittle AND Chilled on every hit. OP? Not too sure. On a non-warden I wager it would be still worse than Ice Comet for straight up damage, but on a Warden it might be the better option. As for PVP, I revert back to my previous comment on Ice Comet being better anyway.

Personally, I think that Icy Rage should have gotten the increased duration and Thunderous Rage have something else like Concussed on every hit, or targets hit send out bolts of Lightning to nearby targets or something,

I mean... It isn't really about whether the ultimate would be too strong with those changes. I think it would be but that isn't what I'm saying exactly. It would only benefit wardens because they're the only ones using offensive ultimates off an ice staff bar. Literally. And wardens just don't need buffing (for PvP.) Wardens would be too strong with this change. They get an increase to chilled proc damage too. We're talking an extra 2k damage (just a guess,) per target per tick. It's just way too much. And again, I mean it's too much in the context of only one class will use it anyway and they're already strong.

DKs and NBs are arguably too strong and need small nerfs. Templar and sorc need a small bit of love. Necro needs a lot of love. Wardens are kinda perfect where they are in my opinion.
