It’s just sad

So a little story.
I’ve been playing ESO for some time now, in my guild i found people who are 55 years + who love the game but could not get DPS more then 10k i got along with a guy i called Zippy which made him laugh always. I suggested the HA build to them and they loved it, after a dungeon or IC to hear an old person laugh and say “we did it my friend“ made me happy but after the Necrom patch Zippy said to me i cannot play with you anymore im weak again before patch we all got 1 year subscription and Necrom because we looked forward to play together. The nerf effected a lot the Oakensoul ring and storm master ( works only on monsters and the time from 20 sec reduced to 8 )

To see they nerf rather then to have more players it’s just sad, after the nerf i also saw a lot more dungeon/trial sellers in zone chat.

I regret buying the Necrom chapter and subscription. Since it will never stop I guess it’s just time to move on.

    A sad story, yes.

But to be honest: If somebody is around 10k dps there is a fundamental lack of understanding of combat mechanics in this game. You'll have to go for wrong traits/mundus, wrong cp, white/green colored weapons and so on. Otherwise it's not possible. Maybe you tell your friend how to replace storm master instead of ranting?

And regarding the abuse of tri-focus in Pvp environments: That's nothing else than bugusing and everyone who did it should've get banned.

Overland difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including One Tamriel, an overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver & Gold as a "you think you do but you don't" - tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game. I'm bored of dungeons, I'm bored of trials; make a personal difficulty slider for overland. It's not that hard.

Ah, :(. I'm on xbox, so I'm still enjoying my HA build, which I just made a couple months ago.
My husband and I (also over 50) were able to go into Blackrose Prison and melt down enemies fairly well. I have to wait until the update to see how the changes are. But I will miss being able to do that on those occasions.

The nerf did not obliterate the playstyle. People have reported doing basically the same damage. Something’s probably just massively wrong with their setup or they didn’t try and just read the notes and got upset.

Can you share the full build? Even after the patch you should be able to do way more than 10k DPS with HA. Something else is missing and I'm sure people can help out.

One set was nerfed. And Empower was very minorly nerfed.

That one set that was nerfed is actually better to be replaced by Noble's Duelist anyways, especially in smaller groups or solo play, as the pen it gives is fairly useful outside of trials. I'm on console, and I already made the Noble's duelist switch and find that I am dealing more damage in encounters than I was prior to the switch. Add the Empower nerf post patch, and my build will do like 2% less damage.

Heavy attack builds are going to be fine.

I truly believe that ZOS developers are OK with HA builds doing very good (but maybe not elite meta min/max) damage and they are here to stay.

But that means HA builds will now be subject to what ZOS does to every other endgame playstyle: the nerf/rebuild treadmill.

They will nerf your endgame build, but provide a very similar alternative that you now have to farm or use transmutes to reconstruct or whatever. Each DLC does not introduce higher level gear like in other MMOs. High Isle did not introduce CP180 gear. Necrom did not introduce CP200 gear. Etc. Instead of needing to farm new, higher level gear, ZOS nerf the popular older sets and force you to farm different (but often still older) sets.

This is ZOS' shtick. Get used to it. :D

I also got killed with tri-focus many times what i thought was i need a new approach was not angry just lured them from mobs.

    @Dagoth_Rac you are right.

At the end what has been done is done nothing will change it.

People angry because ball groups were losing telvars :D ofc they don’t like it a low threat is still a threat

I had to solo a Vvardenfall WB on the weekend with my HA sorc and it was fine. I haven't changed the build since the patch dropped and I didn't really notice it being worse. I hadn't used it in a while and was pleasantly surprised by its ease and effectiveness.

I hope your friend figures out how to get back there. I personally use Sergeant's + Order's Wrath, so I wasn't really impacted by the nerfs as much as Storm Master wearers. I'm still able to do everything I could do before, but I'm not doing vet DLC trials or vet DLC dungeon achievements.

Has your friend tried the heavy attack build after the Necrom release, or just read the notes and decided to stop? I’ve been back on the heavy attack character and it doesn’t seem much different than before.

Then I built up an Arcanist death ray build and saw even more damage with even less button and mouse clicking. It seems like the game is slowly trending in the direction of reducing the damage gap between low versus high actions per minute in certain builds

@MudcrabAttack he did try he cannot get more than 50k on trial dummy before patch was 70k

Very true. And wrong gear stats and attribute selection.

I do see while I am typing this that OP says their friend is getting 50k which is a big improvement over the former 10k,

Play as you want never meant that every build and playstyle would be effective in dungeons, trials, or PvP. It is a choice to build to be effective for those activities and refine one's playstyle to improve.

Was in a group on day 2 that went in blind with 1 tank 1 healer and mostly HA sorcs and we cleared upto the last boss on Vet without much non mechanic trouble. Didn't try the last boss as we were out of time. I hadn't even updated my build as i wasn't planning that for the evening.
