Devour Brain

So I'm doing my daily Bastion Nymic today, I have done it twice yesterday (top and right parts of the map), now I'm doing the left part and I've ended up at the final boss which is the "Irrefutable Herald". Both other Heralds were entertaining to do but there is seemingly a mechanic with this one that I'm failing to understand. I'm doing him like every other boss, it's OK difficulty until I just wipe with that attack "Devour Brain".
I've seen it do as low as 18k dmg and up to 57k dmg, usually around the 35k dmg, which is more than my health bar so it's an instant wipe. He does it seemingly at random times, sometimes only at the end, sometimes really fast in the combat.
There is absolutely zero clue before this attack, he's usually alone on the field when that happens, and worst of all the attack gives him several millions worth of health back. A few tries ago he had like 1m health left, he did the attack, I somehow survived but he was back to like 4.8m health. When he did it again a few moments later, I wiped...

I really don't understand this mechanic. Is this bugged? Is there anyone who has encountered that who could help me with any tip? It's my last herald and I would really like to get the success so if anyone could help with anything, I'd be really thankful.

Thanks in advance!

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic.

    Thank you for your understanding.

I'm running into this too, I can't see an AoE to dodge, no telegraph he's going to do it, just instant death and he heals himself a huge amount to boot.

No idea. He just does the attack and it wipes the group, period. There's no indication it's coming, just BANG we're dead. And the content is so new that apparently there's no guidance anywhere on how to do the fight.

This might help, it's in another thread in General Discussion:

    In that post, it says:
Our second time in, we had a Seeker boss that had a brain eating, charming mechanic that took us a bit to work out (but ultimately boiled down to hold block when its head glows).

Blocking it didn't work for me.

This is such a frustrating bug. If you don't break free from the drain, you get Devour Brain as a 1-shot. However, I had this effect keep happening to me randomly, with no telegraph, after breaking free form the drain, when the boss's head is not glowing.

With a lot of dps, it's less likely to happen and doesn't end the fight. As a solo or maybe duo, it's a totally random fight ender. I really wish this had been fixed because it was a bug on PTS, and I can't find anyone to group for Bastion Nymicss.

You need to break free from this, if it's happening to another player, interrupt.

Hi, it killed me and my groupmates even when we broke free. It was a random 1-shot with no animation or indicator that damage was about to happen.

It would also kill us even if we weren't targeted by the yellow beam/charm. So there's no way to know who it'll hit.

Our strategy was "after it glows yellow, block for 10 seconds just in case" (which is very stamina intensive and again, you don't know if YOU are the one that will be hit or not).

This problem is exacerbated by the fact that if this attack kills someone, it heals the boss potentially up to full health. It makes it a slog where no one in your group can forget to block for 10 seconds.

A high DPS group would probably not notice this, I've just been playing with friendly randos from zone or soloing it. I hate to admit I wasted 1-2 hours on this today.

    Keep your distance.
It appears to not trigger the Devour Brain when no players are close.
Heavy attack lightning sorc build FTW still.

Also, if anyone does get close and gets killed, it will heal the big guy for quite a chunk and you get to start nibbling over again.

I tried to break free. Had full stamina. Was not breaking free. Being reeled in and then BOOM, one-shot, dead.

How do you beat this thing?

Last night, my group and I followed riinaraiith's advice:

Following this advice, we managed to beat it by using long range attacks only. Good luck. 👍
