Do you grind event coffers? Why, or why not?

Depends a bit on the event and what content grants the coffers, but at this point, I've already gotten most of what is available in most event coffers, except when they add something new to them, and the way they've been in recent months, they make the new stuff so rare that grinding coffers only serves to fill my inventory with low-value stuff (because *everybody* is getting flooded with it as well, and it sells for such a pittance on the guild-traders it's not even worth listing) far more than anything new.

I don't like grinding anything, even if it's an activity I enjoy if I need to do it over and over in a short space of time I'm going to get fed up with it and want to stop.

I will do it if there's a reward I really want, but I try to keep it to a minimum so I don't get burned out. For example if I'm trying to collect something that's tradable I'll see how many I can get myself but then I'll buy the rest. Otherwise I'll weigh how much I want it against what it takes to get it and skip the things which aren't worth the hassle for me.

I'm certainly not going to grind drops just to get gold.

I don't go out of my way for any coffers anymore. Rewards just aren't worth my time.

Anniversary is the only one I get a bunch of, but from writs which I'd be doing anyway.

That said, I try to get the event tickets on all my accounts if I can, so I normally get more than I need for event drops.

Not anymore, and it always depended on the activity. The boxes we get now have hardly anything worth it in them, as the new style pages only drop from IC bosses. And I won't grind IC bosses, the past years taught me that it's a slog, the bosses take forever to respawn and the drop rates are low. There's 36 tickets left to get, and I need 35 for the whole style set, so that's what I'll spend them on.

It depends on how much I value the items in the coffers and what comes with them and the activity in question.

For example, I hate spamming daily writs but, I will do it anyways for a bit during the Jubilee because the payoff is high enough that I put up with the annoyance.

During the Jester's Festival, New Life Festival, and Witches Festival I generally don't go much beyond getting the tickets because the rewards aren't very good and I've done the quests enough they aren't really that much fun anymore.

Same here, although Witches is a special case, in that you get Plunder Skulls for stuff you'd likely do anyway, but the contents are particularly lousy.

Definitely not for PvP events. That would be an incredibly unrewarding experience for me. I have nothing against PvP in general and love to indulge in such in WoW and GW2. But in ESO, absolutely not.

Depends on the event and what's involved. PvP I never participate in, the PvE ones I do unless it's the undaunted then I don't.

Coffers contain nothing new. The only new items that you can get are motif pages and those only drop in IC. I think that is a mistake and those motif pages should drop from all PvP event coffers.

I am more likely to spend event tickets (I will buy them for crowns if necessary) and get the motif pages from event merchant as prices for those motif pages has always been ridiculous lol.

This might be the first event in a long while I skip entirely. Nothing to do with it being PvP, but I'm likely to be busy with other things and I'm not interested in any of the rewards and already have 12 event tickets saved up.

No, unless it’s effortless like the crafting boxes. I’ll do content I like doing though and if it gets me a box, great.

The only exception is if there is some cosmetic that I’d get long term enjoyment out of - then I’d suffer.

Anniversary event is the only one that I will grind due to the value of the box contents. But even then it's just writs on all my 16 characters which eats up the majority of my play time for the day.

PVP Events I will get alot of boxes but that's because I enjoy running pvp with my guild and during mayhem there is almost always at least 1 group up and running.

Nah, not really. In December I took another break from ESO a couple of days after the start of the New Life Festival due to event fatigue. I've just started playing again (which started with testing the Arcanist on the PTS), but I don't intend to grind event tickets or even participate in events if I don't enjoy them this time around.

depends on the event and the method to obtain the boxes
      • jesters - i dont grind them anymore, the non-gold boxes are absolute garbage
      • new life - dont grind them anymore either, the non-gold boxes are not that good either
      • anniversary - dont really grind them, because i dont always do dailies, i hate daily crafting writs and even the event wont make me want to do them
      • whitestrakes - i dont directly grind the boxes, but i get tons of them grinding AP since they come from rewards of the worthy, so grinding, but not for the boxes directly
      • zenithar - kind of, because it gives me more of a reason to burn off some of the master writs i have in storage, but not past the first day
      • witches - usually farm this with my 2nd account because you get the plunder skulls just from killing stuff

there are some other less used events (murkmire, year 1, etc) that dont happen regularly that i didnt mention, but like with the regular ones it depends on how to farm the boxes

If I come across something I want to do then I do it, but the endeavours are the only routine thing I usually do if they fit my playstyle - only one today, for example, as the others are all outside my areas of interest. The same with writs, I do them occasionally but usually only in order to complete 2 quests for an endeavour. I don't do daily quests beyond an occasional look to try one out say in a new DLC. Dailies are chores, and that makes gaming more like a job than a hobby. I rarely want anything on the Impresario so I only have an occasional interest in event tickets.

As for event containers, they rarely have anything of real interest so I don't go looking for them. The few events I do enjoy are pretty pointless now the achievements for completing them are account-wide. They used to be a good opportunity for a different character each year but no longer, sadly.

I'm too lazy now. I play for fun these days. When I was on PC it seemed more like a job, grinding, collecting, Trying, - I even started training to get better DPS. On Xbox it feels like a game, a good game at that.

      Thank you, everyone who's answered.

The results so far seem intriguing to me, since I was expecting to see more people who do grind for coffers. That expectation was based on the number of threads and posts in the past which have complained about grinding for coffers but not finding any-- or very few-- of the outfit style pages and other event-only items. I had gotten the impression that a lot of players grind for coffers, not just on their main character, but also on their alts.

I think I would probably grind for more coffers if my bank and inventory weren't so full already. I'll probably spend a few days cleaning them up, so I can do at least a little bit of grinding on my main.

I thinking the rewards are fairly decent-- but it really matters whether you're interested in them at all to begin with, and it can seem like the rewards are too skimpy for those who are interested in them but who can get more of them by other means.

For instance, this is a PvP event, so many of the rewards are PvP-themed, such as motifs, style mats, and currencies that are normally only obtainable by PvPing or questing in PvP zones (unless it's something that can be bought at guild traders from players who obtained it through PvP or in PvP zones). For instance, you can get Tel Var Stones in the event coffers, and it's possible to acquire a fair bit of Tel Var that way-- unless you're a veteran of the IC zone, in which case you'll probably see the amount of Tel Var in the event coffers as little better than peanuts.

In general, I find most reward coffers-- be they event coffers, Tales of Tribute coffers, or wharever-- to be reasonably rewarding but not excessively so, which hopefully encourages players to try to earn more of them, while also trying to prevent excessive farming to the extent that it's almost like an exploit or abuse.

The Mayhem rewards are actually the best - cold fire siege and tel var and other pvp stuff. I just wish the Cyrodiil coffers had the style pages. I farmed IC bosses last year for the pages but the drop rate was abysmally low and you got old style pages you already had as well. Not doing that this year.

See, I had actually forgotten that the new pages don't drop from the coffers, but instead drop from the IC bosses. I finally did remember that, but thank you for pointing it out. That means I can focus less on farming coffers and spend more time in the sewers farming the crossed-swords bosses. And since I really only need to find 2 of the new pages that way, given that I'll be able to buy the other 5 with tickets, it takes a lot of the pressure off.
