I'll just add that I've checked a few times and the game still reports that *I'm* in combat when Bastian thinks it's over, so there's still something a little wonky about it, lol. Not sure if the disengage/re-engage thing is really related to the (rarer) times when he goes completely idle during combat - but did want to bring it up because it could be.

I have Ember set with an Ice staff and use the first staff skill (ice staff taunt), and she stands her ground and doesn't retreat at all. Seems with all 'range' weapons they are programmed to 'stay at range' so when enemies get close, they reposition to maintain their 'range' status. However, it seems with the ice staff taunt, it overrides the 'range' AI.

you dont need the ice staff taunt to make her not move, just equipping the ice staff is enough
i think this was done because the devs see the ice staff as the "magicka tank" weapon

Didn't know that. BUT, I still equip the taunt attack because I WANT THEM to draw aggro. I have a taunt on all my companions so they keep some of the adds away from me. Now with Telvanni Efficiency set, they just burn through overland mobs with little effort and can quickly cast self-heals so they never die. Glad ZOS has added this set, which will definitely make those who enjoy companions enjoy them even more.
