For those who have played the pts does the televanni pennisula too similar?

I haven’t really been able to have a great look at the zone but from the trailers I think it looks a bit too similar to vvardenfell, I want to ask those who have played if the zone actually looks and feels different from vvardenfell. I’m a huge dunmer fan so I’m not complaining and I know there will be obvious similarities such as mushrooms but I was hoping we would have a new zone new feel similar to other zones in the same province. I was hoping we can see lush mushroom deep forests or snowy mountains that have new dunmer twists like armors and buildings that reflect the environment if there was snow or jungles. But from the looks of it it looks pretty much the same as vvardenfell with some height difference and one or two new mushrooms. Is it too similar or does it feel like it’s own?

Below includes some light spoilers from my experience on the PTS:
The "Telvanni Peninsula" appears to have a fair amount of asset reuse in the areas outside of Necrom. The city itself has a fair amount of new assets and the visuals in the city are rather unique. Both the houses the player can visit to steal items in and the the houses you can own feel somewhat unique internally. You do have some nice views off of the coast and some of the newer tech for moving objects is in use. I would however emphasize that the update is more Apocrypha than it is "Telvanni Peninsula". If you travel around on a fast mount, the "Telvanni Peninsula" can feel small if you stick to the main paths but, on an non-upgraded mount without the alliance war speed boost it only feels slightly small.

I have heard that before, I guess what makes me sad about that assessment is two things 1 for one of the two zones to sort of just be reskinned to make room for more apocrypha as the main focus is upsetting because we will not be getting anymore zones this year so I feel like both the telvanni pennisula and apocrypha should have been completely new in terms of look and feel not just apocrypha imo, in simpler words in the past the zones through the year have been well done and new so I wish we got that with both of these zones in necrom since we won’t get another zone this year. 2nd it’s sad that they reused a lot of assets for this zone because it limits the chance we will see Morrowind in the future with a whole new look and feel. To me it feels like them reusing assets like this might mean they don’t plan on revisiting Morrowind again after this release in this game

The short answer is that it is similar but the City of Nercom is very different and there are far more Telvanni Towers.

The real novelty is Apocraphia which is amazing.

A door exists in the northern section of the "Telvanni Peninsula" that would lead to the actual Telvanni Peninsula. It's possible we might see that area or the area around where Dagon Fel was in Morrowind in a future content update.

It does look quite similar, but the distinct lack of Red Mountain makes it feel different. There are very few volcanos in that zone actually. I think there is only one, which is more than Deshaan, but fewer than Stonefalls, yet it does not stand out as much as Red Mountain does in Vvardenfell.

The biggest difference are the Elks running around, which I think should be replaced with something more fitting to Morrowind that can still serve as a contrast to Stonefalls, Deshaan and Vvardenfell. Those and Apocrypha's Seekers, which I do like to see randomly floating around there, are making the zone feel different even though it looks very much the same. The Seekers are roaming bosses kind of like those we've had in the Daedlands, which is super cool to have in a Tamriel zone.

The landscape is similar but the architecture is different. Actually too different for my tastes.

Not counting Televanni furniture, the new “Necrom” furniture is very different from past dark elf styles. To me it appears closer to vampiric in some cases. And the very modern-ish ”art deco” style seems way too modern for this games setting.

But that is a different subject all together.

It's very clearly a part of the Morrowind region but it is distinct. I looks a lot like the city Sadrith Mora but still feels unique. The city of Necrom is very unique in comparison to the rest of the zone but still fits in nicely. I never played Arena so I can't make an accurate comparison to the previous game version of the city.

They are similar, as they should be, imv. There should be a sensible cohesiveness to the world.

The landforms and arrangement of those assets are distinct. There's obvious thinking going on behind it, and I think that needs to be kept in mind in any fair evaluation of what the devs are doing.

I also want them to get as much out of the beautiful assets someone has clearly put so much work into as they possibly can. I don't think it would be reasonable to insist that they put all that work into all that cool stuff and then they are only to use it for one chapter when it would absolutely make sense to use them again.

For instance, when they finally come to do the remaining parts of Skyrim, it would make a lot of sense to use a lot of the stuff they made for Western Skyrim back in 2020. Reinventing the wheel, imv, would be unnecessary busywork, and take energy away from where new stuff makes sense.

Also, the zone is quite small. DLC-sized, so the number of biomes that space should support is minimal. I also really like the idea of the snowy version of Dunmer lands, maybe jungles, but those ideas might be better suited for other places- Blacklight/Velothi Highlands for the former, Thorn/Tear perhaps for the latter.

There's also the case of the Telvanni Isles- which might make more sense to have some colder biomes. I always pictured it like some kind of alien twist to Iceland where the splitting plates create these drastic elemental landscapes but I think I read somewhere recently that The Isles are kept warm by constant volcanism, so who knows what they might do there.

Well pretty much as similar as how Blackwood looks like Cyrodiil and Shadowfen/Murkmire, and how High Isle has a lot of Summerset. The Peninsula and Vvardenfell are geographic neighbors.

It's literally a 2 minute ride to Ash Mountain and a theoretical brief swim to Red Mountain. One must suspend reason and logic to pretend that volcanoes don't have an influence on the Central Highlands area where Necrom and the new zone are located, south of the actual Telvanni Peninsula.

The fact that temperate climate elk are living in sub-tropical Morrowind is a rather glaring juxtaposition. Again, we must not try to make sense of things that can't readily be explained. And art deco is a good description for the Necrom architecture. It's quite beautiful, with the gilded blue stonework.... but nothing like the typical Indoril architecture found elsewhere in the region (such as Deshaan and Stonefalls.)

The Peninsula itself looks just like Vvardenfell, but the city of Necrom is entirely unique. Then there's Apocrypha, half of it looks like what you remember from Skyrim, the other half looks like an alien planet.

I also got the feeling of Fargrave for the city, not in terms of the aesthetic or architecture, but in the kind of claustrophobic feeling of the city. The thing is, since they started doing these dual maps for the chapter release (skyrim/blackreach, blackwood/deadlands, necrom/apocrypha) the quality of the design of the overland zone versus the second zone has been dropping over the years. For eg., Skyrim and blackreach had much better zone designs than everything that came afterwards.
