I haven't even looked to see who's where on that. The only reason I would care about it is for the dye.

I had to for a guild competition, the winner got the M'aiq furnishing back when it was available.

Each zone can have a version of M'aiq. He spawns at a random spot within a few predetermined locations. If you group with someone that has him in their sights, they'll see him too. Otherwise, they may have to look elsewhere as it's determined by group whether or not he'll be there.

i dont think grouping is required, the moment someone talks to him he will despawn in 30 min, but is available to everyone regardless if they are grouped (unless they changed this)

It's possible it still works that way. We just made sure we were grouped because that's how we thought it worked. We didn't test it, now that I think of it.

I've not yet, and I've been playing 8 years! Granted I think I have over half the list just from casual exploration though.

Personally I am not too much a fan of achivements like this. Having a few different spawns in a location with it being any given one at any given time with no real indication or clue as to it feels a little too based on luck for my liking, but perhaps I am missing something. In any case, I'm sure I'll stumble my way across him in due time

....or find a guide of his locations if I *really* want it

im surprised there isnt a random M'aiq encounter in Cyrodiil, just chilling on random forts throughout the day or in random dungeons.
im sure M'aiq would have much to say about how speedy adventurers are in dungeons these days or that back in his day you needed 5 people to do a dungeon and they could take hours (old school mmo reference) or a little poke at how everyone in cyrodill either drops like flies or takes more beating than a hungry daedroth

The dye you get, Liar's Linen, is an excellent mid-griege for cloth, and as emilyhyoyeon says, does nicely for a silver on metal.

Is that so?, maybe it's worth looking in to if its a nice sliver on metal look.

I don't have it, but I did see it applied on a friend's gear. I don't have a screenshot. You can look at https://eso.mmo-fashion.com/dyes-by-color/ and see if they have a screenshot of it.

Of course, the problem can be that not all metals will dye exactly the same, like so much else with gear and dyes.

After 6 1/2 years, I still have not found all of Ma'iq.
I love running into him though.

@SilverBride i hope you know that the Destinations addon has M'aiq possible locations in the filters,
so player only needs to activate the filter and check the locations as they meet M'aiq in one of these.
Not relevant for consoles, but helps to get the Achievement and unlock dye at PC platform.
Also UESP lists all M'aiq quotes when you meet him, they differ from one zone to another.

@SilverBride I completed the achievement last Fall and from my understanding: you can complete the achievement in the course of 1 in-game day/night cycle. M'aiq appears in 3(?*) zones simultaneously for each time period of the day (Dawn, Morning, etc...). He appears only in 1 of the many random spots of the region at a time (I think per day/night cycle, if I recall correctly, so you shouldn't have to worry that he moves to another spot while you are running through them). So you have the duration of a certain time period (let's say, afternoon) to find him in the only spot he is for each of the 3 zones he has appeared.
It is possible to do so in just 1 D/N cycle but you really need to run and be a bit lucky.

* The question mark is because depending on the time of the day, the zones he is in could be a different number. 3 is in general.

Edit: the Dye is nice, I like it on the Black Hand Robe, it gives a metallic touch. To give an idea, it is fairly similar to the Nirnroot one that mastering Alchemy unlocks.

Got this chievo many years ago.

The dye is nice, but one of the coolest things after getting achievement is that if you have/get him as a houseguest...

He'll actually make reference that you found him all over Tamriel and that he likes the place you've let him settle down in.
