Just thought I would share that the Chronometer of the Tribunal can be bought with 1000 writs. I thought it was a crown store exclusive but its not :)

Always interesting when they release the same item for multiple currencies, because it artificially drives the exchange rate to some degree.

Looks like 1000 writs (worth maybe 1.5 -2 million gold) or 3000 crowns (worth approx 4.5 million). At least they made it so if trying to obtain with gold, you are better off buying from a player who has writs to sell vs. crowns to sell, at least on PC.

ZOS putting it in the crown store showcase made it seem an exclusive. So I had a few friends buy it. But while I was checking out the new writ times I noticed it in there. The friends who bought it also have saved writs and I know at least one of them would've preferred to use their writs on it.

While I like the multiple currency way (esp if it means you can get it in game), I do think they should've put in the crown store showcase that it would be obtainable in game.

From what I see, it is not sellable after purchasing at the writ voucher.

It's there for 1000 vouchers, but it goes into your collections. Once collected, it is "redded" out, and not purchasable again.

They mean if an individual wants to buy it for themselves. Its not sellable after buying with crowns either. Its far cheaper to buy with writs than to go through someone selling crowns.

Not directly... you can only buy items purchasable with them.

Ah. So since bought with vouchers is bound to account, there's no way to help out a friend....

Most of the voucher purchased items are actually tradeable, with a few exceptions. This particular item, however, being a collectable, makes it no tradeable either. You can only purchase it once and it insta binds to your account and cannot make subsequent purchases.

Yeah. Sucks. I have a friend who has had to drop ESO+ and not buy anything due to divorce and serious financial issues - and he won't take a gift of money to buy crowns. I mean, I understand where he's at, but it's already a problem because he can't sub so.... I was just hoping I could gift him this for his upcoming birthday (he'd accept an 'item" but he's just not going to go for money). *sigh*

Can you gift it from the crown store since it's technically an item?

I tried that first. I got some error message (which I don't now remember as it was very early this morning - so I wasn't .... um.... really awake.... nor had I had any coffee....). I will try again tomorrow, in case it was just one of those "off the wall" glitches. I've had those various times with the gifting setup. Sometimes it helps to wait a while, y'know?

If the friend has a master crafter, you could buy them a bunch of master writs that add up to 1000 vouchers. Kind of time-consuming and convoluted, but sort of lets you spend gold to help a friend obtain the item.

Oh.... that would actually work. I'll consider that. He's just.... so - not wanting anyone to "help". I remember being there myself many many years ago, so I get it.

I just need to make his birthday as special as possible. Sometimes, being wounded is just really hard - and you don't want your friends to "pat you on the back" and tell you things will be better....

And thanks to you all for giving me some ideas about how to handle this. This community is TRULY the best game community I've ever been a part of.

    Blessings upon you all!

I was just about to suggest the same thing.

It's more complicated than gifting an item directly but if they've got a master crafter (or close enough) you could give them the writs and/or materials and then they'd be able to get the vouchers themselves.

Also since it is available from the writ vendors it's likely to be a permanent addition, I don't think items have been removed from there (just shifted to the assistant and/or bundled together). So people who can't get it now could save up over time for it.

If you want it now you can use gold Jewerly crafting writs. Terribly inefficient gold-wise but its the fastest way if you have those platings from daily craft lying around.

I don't mind the double currency, and although I'm beyond pleased they included an in-game obtainable way (thank you, ZOS!), I think it's fine they also put it in the store, because some people don't have time to farm gold to buy writs, or do dailies to drop writs, and since the item cannot be sold in traders, having a second option (ie, the store) is a good thing in those cases. Also, assuming you can buy it from the store as a gift for someone, that's another example, this can be useful for some players. Anyway, thanks again ZOS for including an in-game buying option as well! :)

That’s not the case on Xbox 3000 crowns is worth 300k but 1000 writs are about 1 million.

Well that just seems silly, although, I guess in the context of them not wanting to artificially set exchange rates, it does make some sense to bind it. I guess as long as we have attunable crafting stations with reasonable demand, there will always be a way to exchange your writ vouchers for gold.

For what its worth, I was going off exchange rates in TCE for crown to gold, and sale prices in TTC of attunable stations for gold to writs exchange rates for PC/NA.

That is why I said "at least on PC". I was using PC rates for those numbers. Gold on console is far more valuable than on PC due to rampant inflation on the later, but I wont turn this thread into an inflation debate.

Admittedly, I have no idea what Gold to Crown rates are on console, but that number is surprising to me. Are they really only 100:1? That seems a little low, but what do I know.

You can gift the Chronometer to anyone. If you bought one already and you want to gift one, then the crown store will show it is blacked out or unavailable. Instead of double clicking it (which will do nothing), right click on the chronometer and a small menus with the word 'gift' will appear. Click gift and proceed to enter your friends info. Enjoy!
