So how did crafters originally research all the nirnhoned traits for the different item types? Did they do that quest on multiple characters, or something? I'm still confused about how all these traits actually got researched in the first place, before these nirnhoned items were available in guild stores.disintegr8 wrote: »That's it, one per character.

The original sources are lots of players completing the craglorn questline and getting different random nirn traits. Once researched each player would trade their item-trait with other players until, eventually, all item-traits were known. A few more dedicated players did complete the craglorn quest on multiple characters but it was the original character per account that were main generators or traders of the various nirn item traits.
These days it's just factory crafters and guild traders. Some craglorn quest completes, true, and maelstrom arena drops.
Thanks for the responses, people, very interesting. Those earlier players must have had a tough time learning the nirnhoned trait on all the different items.

yeah i remember those days lol, nirnhoned research items would sell for 10s of thousands of gold (usually in the 40-60k range if i remember right) because the supply of nirncrux to do the crafting was also very low at the time
(and this was "pre-transmute" era too, so you couldnt even burn transmutes to make nirncrux, you had to go farm it, with an even worse drop rate than it was today)
(the drop rate originally was roughly 1 in 400, but they permanently changed it to roughly 1 in 200)
when i was trying to learn all the nirn research, i would trade research items with other players who knew nirn traits i did not, not to mention the whole process was slow, since it was new and those were 9th traits, it was 30 days per research anyway, so it took a long time to finish that process

I actually learned nirnhoned on an either an alt or my alt account first... so that I could pump out nirnhoned items when they were that expensive and only have the 6h research timer.
