Light Armor Styles should be just Cloth/Leather

In my opinion, not only does the addition of metal armor to a Light weight style damage the aesthetic, it doesn't make practical sense as Light Armor is the least protective weight, thus what is the metal bits even there for?

My current nit pick is the Scorianite Gladiator chest. Yes, admittedly it's called a Jack, but it's a special style with no other weights, and it's designed to be lightly covering, yet the chest is a metal plate bra. It'd be far more appropriate to have just kept it as cloth, or a leather top.

More than me have been wanting for casual every day styles for our characters. Light Armor can fill that desire easily. For those of us not wanting to strap on the iron for a stroll into town, keep the plates at home. My Vestige just wants to be comfy.

It goes the other way as well. I generally prefer the look of metal armor, but many of the heavy armor styles are cloth, fur and leather. I think it's just a matter of light/medium/heavy not meaning much about material in ESO. Heavy may be a little bulkier and cover more (although not always).

Definitely, Heavy Armor should, of course be heavy. Knight of the Circle is a good example of that. I just believe there should be a way to incorporate more every day clothing into outfit styles. Logically you'd only really leave the house if you're expecting/anticipating battle. Why would you throw some plates on for anything else?

I like that there's a good mix in ESO to be honest. Plenty of all styles in each weight. It's nice to have choice.

OK if where going down the literal scientific explanations in a MAGIC game. I want heavy armour to drain stamina 50% more when casting anything stamina, I want heavy armour to slow all characters down in every single circumstance. I'm only using your own logic against you. Just my complete default, asking for scientific explanations/logic in a MAGIC BASED FANTASY GAME is already contradictory within itself, never mind apply the same very logic to other areas of the game.

I highly recommend researching actual historic armor where even on plated armor, you most certainly were not wearing metal plate alone, but also layers and combinations of fabric to prevent yourself from being stabbed, not to mention an arming jacket to attach all of that armor to. Chainmail was typically worn over layers of cloth, and there is far more precident for combining weights than not.

With that being said, I'd rather not have strict historical accuracy in a fantasy game, nor do I want strict "cloth should be cloth only" ext design rules. This would result in very boring homogenized styles that would get old really, really fast. I like having heavier pieces on some light armors. Our current variety is fine, and I enjoy ESO's way of breaking typical mmo outfitting stereotypes.

I'll also point out that like current modeling as is, my only issue might be some of the styles can look uninspired or having less "identity" that styles had previously but that's kinda a given when we're in hundreds of styles already. Clothing pieces are consistently added now through style pages though and I'm pretty sure it's going to stay that way plus costumes.

Its funny cause I agree with your sarcastic points. Heavy Armor should make you slow and fatigued, but provide the high damage resistances we already have.

Where as Light Armor should give us a speed bonus, but a damage taken debuff.

    Eh. It's a Jack, therefore it's Medium.

It's also Crazy Daedric Gladiator Fetish Gear, so of course it's spiky metal. :#

ESO is a fantasy game, and it uses fantasy tropes.

(And for a thread about how armor "looks" there is a surprisingly lack of images for discussion.)

Notice that there is actually not much metal. Arms are mostly exposed. Stomach down to knees is leathers and fabric.

Stalhrim light armor, notice the abundance of "heavy" looking elements.

To be fair, light armor of SP games translates to medium armor in ESO. The light armor of ESO isn't classified as armor in the SP games. They're just robes and clothing.
