Since I want My main Sorcerer character to become the Arcanist class.

I Will be entering The Orrery in Elden Root and emerge as an Arcanist :D

Anyone else has lore friendly ideas if they are switching main's class?

Nope. My mains will be wardens as always. My arcanaists will be more alts as always.

Nope, the Lovecraftian theme of Arcanist is far too much of a turn off for me to give any real thought into playing the class.

That said, any interaction with that filthy Daedra Herma Mora could see your character switch to an Arcanist. I think there's interactions with him in Greenshade, Bangkorai and Craglorn.

I won't be switching my main, but I am going to remake one of my low-level dunmer (currently a necromancer) into an Arcanist.
Haven't finished simmering on the backstory yet, though. But I have plenty of time yet.

I'm also trying to build a rationale for using one of my new slots to make a Bosmer Arcanist.

I wouldn't ever change an existing character's class (or race, or alliance).

The nearest I might come is using a half-formed idea for a character I hadn't made yet, who I'd originally imagined as a sorcerer and making them an arcanist instead. But even then I'm not sure, I'll need to try the class on the PTS first to see if it's a good fit and if it's something I'd want to play.

Hmm I think a good idea might be to tie some sort of achievement that allows you to use the armory system for class change, no crowns involved. Make it so there is an specific achievement for each class so your character could potentially change to any desired class that was previously unlocked? This would be a neat idea

You don't really need a mechanic around it per se. In the Elder Scrolls there are no "classes", so no one is restricted to only use a particular kind of magic, etc. Theoretically, my necromancer character should be perfectly capable of putting a Daedric Curse on someone, even though that's classified as a "Sorcerer skill" in ESO.

So basically, the lore-friendly way of changing classes would be saying "I want to learn other skills/focus on other skills for now" and then just start using them. Honestly I'd be in favour of ZOS just removing classes altogether, but that would be far too daring for them to attempt I think.

Of course, a potential class conversion would almost certainly be put behind a paywall (if they even consider doing in the first place), so it'll probably have nothing to do with your character/lore at all. It'll just be "pay 10,000 Crowns to make this character an Arcanist".

Saaaame. As much as I love necromancy, the fact that ESO's necromancer only has 1 real offensive minion summon (which lasts 20s) is a real turn-off. So when I saw the announcement for the Arcanist I briefly considered just going with the new runecaster class. Except until I noticed that ALL the skills were tentacle-themed and green. Really wish ZOS would give classes their own identity like they did necro.

Nope, I don't have a main. I'll make a new character if I come back to ESO with his or her own backstory that will lend itself to the class. That's what I've done with all my characters.

You can never change class, and it doesn't sound like there's going to be any kind of mechanic that allows you to change class anytime soon, as it's very technologically difficult for them to program that, or are you saying that you create a new character with the same looks/etc and try to pretend that they've changed class? I always make all my characters completely new & unique, so nothing like that for me.

Oh, in that sense I have done it. I have a warden who I originally made as a templar, then didn't play much because templar didn't really fit what I wanted her to be. But in that case I just restarted her story as well. I used the same backstory but didn't try to find a way to pretend the new character had done everything the templar version had, I took her back to the point where she joined the game and played through from there as if everything the previous version had done never happened.

My original main was a Nightblade, a mage whose life was saved by Nocturnal and became one of her agents. When the Warden was released, I instantly fell in love with the class and I decided to remake him as a Warden (same looks and same name too, so I had to delete him :/ )

The backstory I created behind it was that my main had a fateful encounter with a Wood Elf Spinner, who managed to convince him to free himself from the Daedric corruption. She used her storytelling magic to alter his story so that he never encountered Nocturnal and never became a Nightblade. After the ritual ended and he was himself again, he received Y'ffre's blessing, becoming a Warden instead.

If Spinners can actually change a person's life story, changing a class would def be in their power, no? :p

Funny, I had a templar character that I remade into a Warden too. Same reason, Warden fit much better theme wise. I didn't change her story though. I simply pretended it was the same character and went back to redo the same quests she did.
