Can we please get "unhide" password on account login screen?

ESO players have asked for this before. I remember folks asking for this option way back in 2014. I would really like to know why this suggestion was rejected.

Most sites I use allow one to "unhide" the password so one may verify correct entry as one types. Of course, if I were in an internet cafe or a library, I would hide the password, but at home having a hidden password is simply unnecessary. In my specific case, my mechanical keyboards (all of them, every brand) eventually start repeating keystrokes, which leads to incorrect letter entry. For example, I might press the "a" key one time and have aa enter. This sometimes leads to incorrect password entries (as well as unintentional dodge-rolls).

Aside: Currently, the ESO launcher account log-on is returning the wrong error message when an incorrect password is entered: it's returning the unauthorized-computer message (see email for Code), instead of the message that account name and password do not match. I could avoid an error message (the wrong one or the correct one) if I could see the password as I type.

In the past, when someone asked to "unhide" the password folks amused themselves by making fun. However, not one of the comments gave a good reason why the option (to "hide" or "unhide") should not be available. If you want your password hidden, then you'd still have that option, so why deny the "unhide" option to others? Players have been asking for this option for 9 years. It seems like such a simple thing to give us.

FWIW the method of showing only the last character typed fails to reveal the double-character issue described, and adds nothing to security.

My guess would be it was direction from ZOS' Legal\Liability team.

I get what you are saying about being mindful of where you are, not showing password while in a public space, etc.
You're using common sense, which is good to see. But for awhile now, ESPECIALLY when it comes to people's passwords and their personal data, common sense is not so common.

I agree it would be a nice little QoL\convenience feature tho.
But I would suspect their legal team did not approve it because it potentially opens ZOS up headaches.
IIRC the same password for your game account is also the same credentials you use to log into your Zeni account portal. (If anything needs to be changed it's THAT)

People get distracted, they forget simple things and "shoulder surfing" is a LOT more common than you may realize. Especially with all the wonderful "hi-def video recording devices" (phones) people are always walking around with in front of their faces ;)

"Hi support, I logged in today and everything is missing from my account, my best gear, my gold, CROWNS, ALL OF IT! And also I see where someone bought 1000s of crowns and gifted a whole bunch of store stuff to accounts I've never heard of!? Why would you make it so other people could see MY password?!"

    etc, etc, ad infinitum

Along with common sense, personal responsibility is also not common.

Thanks for your reply Tenthirty2. You make very good points and explain logical reasons why ZOS would not provide this option. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Double pressing your key is definitely an issue unique to your setup, my steelseries apex pro has never done that and i have the lowest possible actuation rate on it making the keys like mobile keyboard level of sensitivity

Which doesn't help people who are typing their passwords, make sure that the password is typed correctly.
And that's the point of this feature request.

(personally, I've seen this option show up in more places over the past year. So it seems like a spreading concept.)

Ironic, actually. Sites demand better passwords, with upper, lower, number, symbols, at least 500 characters long, and including a first born child. Then people can't type the password reliably, so they make an option to show it to the user, anyone who happens to be behind them, and any screen capture trojans that happen to be running in the background.

I've always wanted the same option (check the trusted computer box) for password just like user name. It is absurd for me to enter my password each time I play. My computer is in my office in my locked home and if a stranger gets access to it, that is the least of my problems.

On my home trusted computer, I don't have to log in each time to numerous secure sites each time I bring them up.
