What will Arcanist do better than the other classes?

Each class does something better than the rest. NB is stealth, dk is tankiness/dots, sorc is mobility, Templar is cleansing, warden is healing, necro is corpses.

Basically, what will it’s play style be like?

All I know is zos themselves mentioned a focus on mobility with the portals. Things not looking good for sorc tbh.

I hope they have more than just mobility. Nightblades and sorcs get around just fine... Anything MORE mobile would just be flat out avoiding fights. I understand that some of their portals can be used on allies... But I dunno. There's a few mechanics like this in the game already and I feel like they don't get used much. Due to just being kinda niche and disorienting.

I'm guessing it will do everything better than other classes. Warden was immediately top healing class on release, and very good tank (essential when Cloudrest was added). Necro proved to be top DPS as well as an excellent tank and healer.

I don't mean this as a bad thing, the devs clearly intend for new classes to perform well in all 3 roles. Even the original classes all had some really interesting and unique skills in the beginning, although less suited to perform all roles. They have just been watered down by 9 years of "nerf them" requests from salty players.

Does it need to do something better than other classes? My expectation is that it will be very strong across all three roles, just like Warden and Necro are, and bring some sort of unique group buff or enemy debuff to earn it a slot(s) in raids. If anything, the thing that will set it apart mechanically (like Necro corpses) may be the Crux mechanic.

They said something about combos so this might be interesting and what I missed most in ESO. If they implemented a buff casted by the arcanists that creates a sort of extra damage explosion when another player casts a spell or other specific ability on a boss this might be interesting for support classes. Similar combos could be for healers and tanks where the burst heal is increased or where a buff from healer or tank increases a damage from the arcanist dps for a specific ability.

Or there are combos between arcanist skills which would act as a self buff.

For the portals, maybe we get trials where this kind of ability enhances the possibility for boss tactics which might be interesting. Depends how long the portals remain active...

I hope their healing is dedicated to a more shield-oriented playstyle, as it was mentioned during the preview. Otherwise I'd say mobility?

Who knows. I do imagine since it has a combo system tied to it's abilities that it'll be pretty bursty, but limiting in it's playstyle because of it though.

I'm going to play it purely for the book esthetic. That's why I did Scholar/Summoner in FFXIV. I just love the visuals of a large, glowy arcane tome used to focus magic.

I don't care if the class ends up being a potato. For me it's all about style.
