Arcanist is cool, but green seems wrong.

The word "Arcanist" invokes the word "arcane" and arcane wizards/mages are often shown with blue/cyan colors with pink/magenta.

The green feels more like a color traditionally used for Necromancers.

The class looks fun, but I feel like it would be better received with more "mage like" colors vs "undead like" colors.

He's a Hermaeus Mora cultist. And Mora is associated with a sickly green-grayish/brownish color scheme.

Agreed. Arcanist is a misleading class name. It’s more of a hermaes mora spellcaster specifically. The green colors are associated with his realm.

I think they look cool. But it is weird to have another green themed class when we already have necromancer greens and warden nature greens.

It would be nice if they'd let us skin colors onto the class, the way they are with the teleportation animation and the gathering animation. That way those who want to stick to the current colors can have them, and those that would like something else can choose colors that fit their aesthetic .

Agree with you. I love arcane mages, but the color turns me off. If I could use some cyan and magenta colors for the spells, I'd be extremely satisfied. Purple would have been ok as well. The green just feels too much like a necromancer.

Eh, not really. The definition of arcane is " understood by few; mysterious or secret". Since the class uses magic from a God of secret knowledge I'd say it fits.

Necromancer is green in GW2 but in ESO it’s definitely cyan. At this point, colors have to be repeated or similar. Some shade of blue would be usual for a mage class, but green is fitting for an acolyte of Hermaeus Mora.

If they named it "Apotholite" class (alluding to Apotheosis, the process of becoming a god through learning and growth) would have made more sense. Would be more fitting all around. Then again, Wardens aren't restricted to a region in Nirn and yet only have Morrowind animal themes...

    Meh.

I'm sorry, but I disagree. Green is the most suitable colour here as it is tied to Hermaeus Mora and his realm Apocrypha. I have never seen green being used for necromancers either. The only colour I see being traditionally used for necromancers, especially in TES, is black.

And I disagree that there is such a thing as "mage-like" colours. We mages use all magical energies.

Apocrypha is mostly green, this class is tied with apocrypha.

Arcanist implies arcane, which to me also ties in to forbidden lore. So to me, it all fits pretty well.

I am not a fan of the green and always associate that colour with poison rather than magick. I agree that blue, purple or even pink would have been more in keeping with how I think of the arcane arts.

Yeah poor choice of words. I didn’t mean it was misleading as in inaccurate. I meant it’s not what you would think of in your head when hearing the name, when compared to most other RPGs.

The color fits apocrypha, which the class is based around. I don't think I've heard the word "Arcanist" used before in TES so I'll roll with it for now, but it does feel a bit weird.

The whole class feels a bit weird for now from what little we've seen, and I have no idea what kind character I'm going to build with it.

Same here. Pink, blue, and purple colors for arcane spells is traditional for many fantasy based online games alike. Green makes me think of nature magic and including poison. Who knows what colors the Arcanist spells would look like in Elderscrolls once that class is available to play.

Specifically for Mora cultists, not yet. Generally, yes, although it seems only in ESO:

The word "arcane" itself was used before that. Think of the Arcane University, for example (let alone it's just a normal word).

So another necro and wardrn? We needed a green class. Its all that was left.

    Next class might be pink

Idk how green is associated with a halloween class.

It's a poorly named Hermaeus Mora cultist class. The green doesn't fit the name but it does fit the theme.

I agree with you OP, but since the class is supposedly drawing power from the Apocrypha, and the Apocrypha is green-tinged, we get corresponding green skills. Though they could have added a few more colours here and there and still stick to the theme. I don't mind the colouring so much, as the fact that the visuals of the skills seemed (in the preview, at least) kind of mobile game-y? I don't know how else to describe them, but they seem to try and be edgy and cool, but come off unsubstantial and with a shallow design. Gonna have to wait for the PTS, but so far I'm not a fan of the effects and visuals (and also the theme... I mean, I know it's because of Hermaeus Mora and everything, but tentacles on an Arcanist...?!)

Mora's realm is supposed to look weird, diseased and eerie, so it seems the design works as intended.
