Do you think we're getting Spellcrafting this year?

Title.

We already know that Hermaeus Mora will be heavily featured in the next Chapter. There are some hints and indications, that the "long requested" feature ZOS will add to the game in the upcoming Chapter could be Spellcrafting.

Just to get a quick overview, do y'all think 2023 will be the year Spellcrafting is introduced to the game or not? Simple question, simple answer: Yes or No.

Imagine teasing spellcrafting and then not delivering.

There's the added consideration that (if) Telvanni in the new chapter, then some sort of levitation spell is inevitable, isn't it?

Perhaps they will have a batch of new spells that would be potentially gamebreaking if released as regular magic skills lines, so are being naturally throttled by appearing only within the limits of a spellcrafting system, or something.

No, but I would LOVE to be wrong.

I just don't see how they can introduce it without either heavily imbalancing the game and completely altering the way builds work, or watering the system down to a shadow of its former self which is guaranteed to underwhelm and kick up a hornet's nest of criticism. If they can pull it off though, I'll be sooooo happy to be wrong

For a point of comparison, my safe-ish bet is One Hand and Spell weapon being the new feature added with the Chapter, and their take on vet overland being added as the Q4 "tent pole" feature.

A harder difficulty mode seems like a base game update rather than something that should be charged for piecemeal via a Chapter (so Q4 more likely imo), and One Hand and Spell is the easiest new weapon type for them to add I believe. They'd share existing models unlike spears or fist weapons would, so significantly less workload there, and plenty of NPCs in the game have been using it since launch, so animations already exist. Here are three of them I found clustered together:

Never been interested in having it in this game. I actually wasn't interested in it in previous games either; was glad they left it out of Skyrim.

Yes, but only thing that can get me to return is overland content difficulty.
So will check back in Q3 or Q4 whatever the roadmap for the next big feature after spell-crafting reveal.

I think there is a real chance this could be the year it happens.

Wouldn't bet too much on it though, as it was first presented back in 2014 yet never got introduced.

I think it will be spellcrafting, but not as we envisage it.

I think it will be more of an augmentation system to add effects or change damage types

Example: changing weapon skills from physical damage types or perhaps magic types, or further to specific elements instead.

That would open up dead armour sets to potential use.

I think for a normal spellcrafting system with new slottable spells, well that's not really any different to just adding a new skill line like undaunted for example, or a new class entirely.

I get the feeling that Spell crafting had to wait for the hybridization as to not let stamina builds be left out. Unless you will also be able to craft stamina spells of course.

too much work. doubt they will do it.

And if they do it will be something lazy like

    In a good world...

skill 1 is a Spammable You change it to poison, fire, ice etc.
Skill 2 a dot, you change it's element to poison fire..etc.
Skill 3 is a aoe 10 sec dot. We change it's ele...
Ulimate has 2 elements or 1, same situation you change to poison fire etc.

Rest of the skill line is passives. cuz we gotta lvl it like psijic.

    In a realistic world...

We get a dot. and the rest is passives we need to lv up.

The dot itself isn't even that strong.
I am @fluffypallascat pc eu if someone wants to play together
Shadow strike is the best cp passive ever!

I mean... everything is possible, but the way I see it is that it would create co much imbalance that I doubt they will do it.

Already it is kinda hard for the Devs to balance stuff (as there is way to much stuff to balance) and it kinda shows. It always makes the whole experience unplayable for 1 - 3 months after major update, till we have a "hot - fix" nerf.

So, imagine if (just like with Oakensoul), just to sell new content they would add an incredible strong spell (to the point that it would be stronger than class abilities) and as soon as more people will manage to grind it & get it - it is nerfed.

Anything is possible. They can easily dust it off and develop it, but this is a big thing, and even if they do it, it will be years before they get it right. My "no" is a "please, for the love of everything, don't"

I believe in Spellcrafting, but not in the way you think it will be. It'll be all non-combat meaning no damage or healing. You get things like levitation to avoid ground hazards, telekinesis to loot targets at a distance or interact with objects, invisibility to avoid detection from non-player enemies, or transmutation to "upgrade" materials like from Iron to Steel.

I'd lean slightly towards no at this point but wouldn't be terribly surprised if it would happen.

How Spell Crafting could be effective with this patch:

A portion of the assets are already done from the Beta stuff that got cut.

It's a function that people have requested and that people did like in some of the prior games.

It allows for more customization and more variety for builds(at least for the people that don't min max).

It would fit with the idea of having less story and more grinding content.

It would fit with Mora to a degree as you would be searching for knowledge.

How spell crafting could be ineffective with this patch:

Spell Crafting might be the Elder Scrolls version of playing Female Shepherd. If you read forums, it sounds like everybody did it. If you look at the stats it was actually a little under a third.

Balance wise, it could add challenges to put it mildly.

Grinding may not go over well with portions of the players. (I bought Summerset and ended up quitting a few days later a few years back because I so hated the Psijic grind.)

Mora may put a damper on the appeal of it if he is highly attached.

The top of the game might not have much class identity but, much of the rest of the game does and Spell Crafting could easily cut into it.

It will likely be hard to add new classes/weapons after putting in Spell Crafting because ESO doesn't have that many unused Elder Scrolls abilities and Spell Crafting will likely eat many of them up over time.

Depending on the amount of existing assets it might still be rather expensive to implement. If you look at the recent changes to some of the skills it's pretty obvious ZOS is cheap when it comes to adding new animations.

The number of active summons may cause annoyance/performance issues if more are added as all class. (One of the Spell Crafting items that was originally in play was the Flame Atronach and another was a Familiar.)

My guess (and hope) is "Yes". I feel like it would make sense in light of all the spreadsheet "balancing" we've had recently -- essentially making sure all pre-built skills align in power and cost to the spellcrafting system to be implemented -- e.g. all skills that grant major resolve have the same base cost and duration, but increase in cost as extra effects are added, the duration is changed, etc.

Weird thing, I want to answer Yes, but there was so many letdowns from year to year so I just can't answer 'yes', though I do think that hints pointing towards Spellcrafting...really want to believe that we will get Spellcrafting, but I have a little faith in ZoS, sadly.
