Should ESO ban all groups in Cyro to reduce lag?

I guess its to much to ask for but, I see a majority of the players again and again running into the choke point traps that balls set up. A better understanding of pvp would reduce the frustration for people when they fight a ball. May be a better introduction from zos would help more than anything else. Some guilds do try to educate people new to pvp, but may players seem to prefere to zerg.

When I asked about benefits to grouping, I meant technical benefits such as any differences in XP/AP gains, healing or buffs that are applied to all members of a group, or things like that. I should know all of that already, but as a mainly solo player I've never really bothered to learn about that stuff.

Since players can always play together in a group using chat or Discord for communicating and coordinating-- which doesn't require being "grouped" together-- that makes grouping sort of superfluous or unnecessary. So what are the actual technical benefits to grouping, as opposed to any purely "social" benefits such as being able to use /group chat rather than /zone chat?

Cyrodiil ran pretty well back in the early days of this game.

There is simply too much to calculate now and the code doesn't support it. Every DLC adds yet another set the servers have to calculate and keep track of. It's out of hand.

The extent of the benefits a group gains over individuals varies depending on the composition of said group.
It's one thing to group up with 12 guildies or randoms that simply try to stay close by and heal each other and maybe share some buffs attached to skills like Molten weapons or Ice fortress. Those groups will certainly have an advantage over a few ungrouped pugs, especially if in voice chat together to call out targets or coordinate ulti dumps. Still when outnumbered 2 or 3 to 1 by competent players they usually go down as quickly as anyone else.
It's a whole other thing when you get a fully optimized group in which the sets they all wear and skill rotations they all do have been carefully planned out to give nearly 100% uptime on just about every buff you can possibly give each other. For example 1 person wearing Phoenix Moth, 1 wearing SPC or Olorime and 1 wearing Powerful Assault can spam heals to give a group 1K extra wd/sd and 10% extra crit damage. Then between all the group members they still have 21 more 5 piece set openings, 12 monster/other 2piece set spots and over a hundred ability slots for skills like Warhorn and those previously mentioned. All of which they can use to give each other even more damage buffs, regular and crit resist buffs, healing buffs, ulti gen buffs and recovery buffs. Those are the groups that can survive indefinitely being attacked by 5x their numbers while they breeze through oils, cold fire, scattershot, and meatbags.
Take a look through all the various options on eso-sets.com and you'll see a quite a few sets that give out a variety of powerful buffs, but the huge majority state they affect only grouped members or allies. And the exceptions which affect allies whether grouped or not have short duration's, so if you're not staying close (balled up) to the provider for constant refreshes you won't have it for more than a few seconds.

Good ball groups will take keeps if there is no one to fight. Would you stand back and watch them take the map because you don't want to fight them?

Denying them is a completely valid strategy, so is taking your smaller force to claim some of their keeps and resources while they obsess over farming randoms that respawn on a transitus stone.

PC/NA btw, I'm probably not the only one who sees this happen.

To be fair, there are plenty of ways to defeat ball groups, but most players aren’t willing to slot the skills, wear the gear, or do the things it takes.

This is true. I would give a million gold to see everyone slot inevitable detonation and just all start spamming it again and again on one. If they've got 40 or 50 people spamming the ability it wouldn't take long for 10+ to go off at the same time and even at only 4K a piece on average (it would likely be more) 40-50K in one GCD is likely going to take a few out.

Ballgroups are annoying in most contexts. Ballgroups fighting 40 or 50 people (with or without inevitable detonation,) is not one of those contexts.

What we need is a way to fix performance somehow and prevent trolling.

Making 12 coordinated and talented players be literally unable to beat 24 disorganized players should not be our goal.

If you get 40 people together and coordinate them all to use AoE abilities on the same target... You know what that's called? The biggest ballgroup anyone has ever seen.

Most of those 40 people are already trying to hit them by spamming AoE abilities, but not a sticky bomb of burst damage that scales for numbers and can't be avoided. The super slow cast time in lag means very few run the ability.

Proc sets/Calculations are the problem, I play on GH once a week and I hate it, even fighting NPCs is a slog

Come to Raven where its much better and you don't need to worry about being lagged to death from ball group procs, you WIILL still be killed by balls tho

It's not just lag, they've completely ruined pvp after years of making pvp miserable. For instance, Gray Host on PC NA-server has 5 AD ball groups running around AT THE SAME TIME!!! This isn't fun in the least, and I'm just tired. PvP is exhausting and not fun with the ball groups ruining everything. I don't understand how they can be satisfied with destroying PvP.

As I already said balls are not invicible, but one need to learn how to counter them. The whole game design is also built around group play, look at all skills and effects that only apply in a group. I dare to say that the best part of cyro is when you are in a raid (ball) fighting other raids, unfortunately many players dont want to or havent learned to play in a team. Due to lack of enemy raids, balls often only find the zerg to fight which can be a challenge to if you are outnumbered.

Damn, I miss 24 player groups. Remember ninja sieging? Can’t do that with 12 people (unless you want to become bored to death).

But ESO doesn’t care about pvp, so why not ruin Cyro totally, with no groups, until almost everyone leaves, forcing ESO to prioritize Cyro.

Difficult to run in a tight ball when players in a Discord group have no icons over their heads, and no visible crown.

That being said, EP had a good run this evening in EU PC GH. It was fun. Found no group, and my pvp guild refused to play, so I went solo, but it was fun. And Cyro looks good with a high-end pc.
