Let new players choose their intro quest

Studio letter talks about the game being intimidating for new players and he's right. Every TES game starts you off as a prisoner and you get your hand held through the first little bit. The ORIGINAL intro for ESO, ending up in a prison cell in cold harbor, is very much the same but now you get a portal chooser and up on a street corner in Vivec or Summerset or wherever and it's "here ya go". The progression in the main quest-line, getting dropped off in the starting zone, the prophet, all of it, actually teaches mechanics and helps progress. Please bring it back and at least let new players choose 1) Intro quest for experienced players or 2) Intro quest for first time players

The one in Coldharbour is still my favorite.

I remember when I first started you did Firemoth Island, then I got dropped in Seyda Neen. I was emotionally invested in the campaign played through off of that chapter (had no idea the rest of the game existed LOL) then finished it and was "now what", spent the next two days walking across Tamriel because I was lost and confused.

I guess this is what they want from introduction. Players are now free to choose where their story begins.

Yes, please. The new one isn't terrible but it's not connected to any of the plots in the game so it's just kind of meh. It would be great to have the opportunity to play through the intros that I missed, or just do the Morrowind one again for nostalgia's sake.

The original tutorial / intro actually did a superb job in explaining mechanics and drawing you into what is otherwise a rather confusing main story quest line. I am not sure why the devs had to come up with a new (and cut down) intro with each expansion but I am not sure it actually helps anything apart from "encouraging" people to do the most recent content instead of it in an order that makes sense.

I am sure the old tutorial quest zones are still around and offering an option to select where you would want to start might be a good idea.

ZOS also needs to implement something like The Questing Guide add-on. Make it so that the player can toggle on and off all the additional main-story line quest givers that have been added over time with the additional chapters.

I've got multiple Vanus Galerions in some of the mages guilds at this point. It's a bit of a mess.

In my opinion, the game should start in Coldharbour, then move to Balfiera and the portals for the first 4 Chapters should have the option to go through the currently disabled tutorial quests (Broken Bonds (Morrowind), The Mind Trap (Summerset), Bright Moons, Warm Sands (Elsweyr) and Bound in Blood (Greymoor)).

The new tutorial is my favourite one since Coldharbour, but I still think Coldharbour was better.

I like that the new tutorial leaves it completely open where you were before and how you got there. I hated that my warden had to start on a boat to Vvardenfell because it made no sense for her to do that. I hated it enough that when Greymoor came out I deleted and re-made the character because that tutorial was a better fit and it was still bothering me that the start of her story was all wrong.

With the new one there's all kinds of possibilities because all you're told is you came through a portal. Your character could have done it themselves (either deliberately or by accident), someone else could have done it to them, they could have no idea what happened. The Coldharbour tutorial was the same, all it told you was you were sacrified by the Worm Cult, it was up to you to decide how and why that happened.

I also like that it gives you a choice of where to go next, but I think that could have been incorporated into the Coldharbour tutorial. All it would need is a conversation with Lyris or the Prophet about how you'll need to visulise where you want to end up and brief intros to each area like the current tutorial has to help players choose.

Regardless of where you choose it would provide an introduction to the main story at the appropriate point (the start of the game) and resolve all the lore disrepencies where people and storylines assume your character's soul is missing, without losing the current benefit of being able to choose where you start.

the one in coldharbour was the best because it's directly linked to the main quest and you start in your own faction zone.

I wouldnt be a new players in 2023 tbh. this is a total mess to follow the quest in the order, in particular when you meet lyris titan at fighters guild when she's still emprisonned in coldharbour -_-

ZOS has been fiddling with the start of the game since the game began, and they have never gotten it right. It has been retconned so many times that it is hard to keep track. It is obvious that the story is broken, but the number of times they have broken it has become buried under layers of partial changes.

The intro quest should still be the Wailing Prison. It should have never been changed.

I still have my very first character ever made in that prison cell. He was a name grab during the Explorer's Pack early access that I didn't bother spending time personalizing as I figured I'd wait for the game's barbershop and spend some gold to make him look correct. When it was implemented for crowns instead of gold I protested and kept his weird-looking ass in there forever lol.

I wish they'd fix that too. All they'd need to do is have the initial quest starters be a generic NPC or a note somewhere and then the main characters don't appear until you've started the quest. The game already has the ability to change which NPCs are visible and where they are based on quest progress so it wouldn't need anything new.

They could even condense it down to one NPC for everything - make them a herald or a town crier or something and have them offering news and oppertunities from all around Tamriel. Or maybe part of the Fighter's Guild offering tips on contracts they can't take on because they're still tied up with the dark anchors. They tell you about the currently available opportunities (chapter and DLC quests you haven't started yet), you pick the one/s you want to do and then the relevant NPCs appear.

Yes please. Just like in guild wars 2 (the game I got banned for life on). Choose starting quest and starting zone. I would love that.
