IN GAME ECONOMY

In early days, crown store had a few nice items (such as selected housing) available for in game gold, admittedly a lot of gold but a nice alternative to spending crowns.
Now i see nothing available in crown store for purchase with in game gold.

Makes me wonder about viability of in game gold economy. I have been industrious in guild sales and have many millions of gold on hand, but i have begun to wonder WHY. I quit the endless chase for gear a couple of years ago when i tired of the constant additions in gear sets every few months. I can craft most items for house or items my toons need, so no need to buy much.

My conclusion: Not much incentive to continue engaging with sales guilds and in game economy. Where am I going wrong here?

You can trade in game gold for crowns. There are reputable outlets (not sanctioned by ZOS though); I don't know links to them personally, because I don't buy much from the CS, and I certainly don't mess around with gold to crown sales.

Many players in this game have ALOT of Gold so i can see that it would be a bit tricky for eso to have stuff that can be bought with in game gold, a house for 5 mil gold is cheap for one player but impossible for the next one.

It’s all about how you work for that gold. People with millions put in a ton of effort to make those millions. I make millions but I also spend millions, not on housing mind you but I do make/trade gold mats among some of my core teams and guilds and I’m not stingy with those mats either. If one of my tanks needs tempers or plates to improve some gear I trade or give it right away. This means I am regularly shopping traders to find deals so that my teammates don’t necessarily have to.

I will also make lower level players gold gear, and even sometimes do it for randoms. I may even drag them through a dungeon or two. No use hoarding all of that gold or all of the mats.

We are also in that long gap between the next story/chapter where I see lots of people unloading things cheap. This is the time to buy and stock up ahead of the next meta. I found a stack of chromium playing going for 60K each the other day on Xbox NA server. Cost me 2.4mil for the whole stack but that’s a bargain compared to a year ago when these things were going for almost double that. When the next meta comes I don’t have to grind for those mats.

Of course if I could spend on cosmetics that would change my spending habits. Hard to speculate about that however as I’m sitting on 20K+ endeavour vouchers and only find something interesting every 3-4 months as none of the mounts really speak to me.

It's not exactly a change, houses are the only crown store items which have also been available in the store for gold. Everything else in the crown store has always only been available for crowns, it's not like they took away an option which used to be there. Sometimes there's a work-around, like buying a horse from the stables instead of a crown store mount, or getting the tradable version of a motif in-game instead, but again all those options are still available.

I think ZOS intended the two to be largely seperate with crown store stuff being seperate to the in-game economy.

I do agree that the game could use more ways to spend gold, especially ones that actually remove it from the economy instead of just passing it to other players, but I don't think it's likely they'll start selling crown store items for gold directly.

Not necessarily. I never had more than about 500k gold at once, then I got a complete hollowjack motif book as a random drop and for some reason it sold for about 7 million, even though all the individual motifs would cost a fraction of that (I'm told collectors will buy the complete books). Obviously that's rare (otherwise it wouldn't be worth so much) but across the whole game there's going to be a lot of players who got a million or more gold from a lucky drop.

That way over a year ago and I've still got the majority of it because I haven't found that much to spend it on. When houses were discounted a while ago I bought some (and already had one) but I mainly like the smaller houses so it wasn't that expensive. Other than that I mainly buy motifs but after finally getting the master crafter title a while ago I only buy ones I really like or need for master writs and again that's not a lot. I already had all the bank and bag upgrades.

I know I could pay someone to gift me crown store items, but it's rare that I want stuff from the store and when I do I'd rather buy it directly than spend time trying to find someone trustworthy to buy it for me and arguing exchange rates.

I agree that it is unlikely that in game gold will be honored in the crown store ever again, but it would be nice if ESO came up with a way to dump in game gold for desirable items in the game. It would certainly spice up the in game economy for me.

The whole purpose for me with gold is to buy more motif pages to keep up with the ever growing master writs that need new styles. Before I could complete around 95% of the master writs I have collected and kept up with that, now it's like 60% completion rate with almost half going to waste. I finally hit that wall where I don't want to continue this cycle of spending gold on new style pages just to meet requirements for the master writs. I'm just destroying those I can't complete and not worrying about keeping up with this crap.

Now that I'm no longer doing that, my gold is gradually going up with nowhere to really spend it which in turn I stopped doing content for gold as I don't have a use for it lol. It's not that I have a lot, around 6 million gold, I just don't have any incentives to where I want to spend it. I may buy some housing furnishings, but I seem to have most of what I want already. I have all the houses I want, two Manors and then a bunch of free homes.

I'm not a competitive player so doing challenging content isn't my thing, all 18 of my characters has all the sets I want for what I do, gold out in every slot including jewelry. I ran out of stuff to do in ESO so I'm just waiting on the next story and companions. But long-term, this game has run its course for me. I'm not progressing in any way, I have nothing I want to buy, I have lost all motivation to keep playing.

that is the same notion than i am beginning to have. Shame, because this is a good game but i've played since beta and i've tired of the hamster wheel to obtain something i don't want or need.

Just requesting a little attention to incentives to continue interest in game economy.

Everything is so. It's just that the game is very primitive in terms of economics. I would love to play a simulator of a complex economy in the world of Elder Scrolls, but most people are not interested in it

I like that I don't feel any pressure to go out of my way to get gold. I've never liked farming in games or doing a routine of daily quests and this way I don't feel like I'm missing anything by skipping them.

But at the same time gold is one of the most common rewards in the game and it's a bit of a let-down to feel indifferent about it because there's nothing I want to spend it on.

The problem is I can't think of anything they could add which would appeal to me which wouldn't also conflict with existing systems like the crown store. In my other MMO I mainly spend gold on item skins and pets, but allowing us to buy motifs directly from NPCs would mess with a big part of the trading system and pets are either achievement rewards or crown store items.

How.about 1 mill gold for a lead. That would sure help people that hate farming antiquities and a gold sink. Also how.about a NPC broker for gold to be traded against other in game currency like ap points talvar , and crowns.

People still run old sets, and new gold quality trial jewelry can be made out of a handful of transmute stones. Kutas are cheap. Food ingredients seem very cheap, now that we have hybrid builds many people aren’t in desperate need of resource regeneration. Why run gold quality food that provides regeneration, but less of a single max resource than a super cheap green quality food? Hybrids still stack just one of their resources as high as they go to maximize the effects of skills. And if all the armor is already gold quality then there isn’t much else needed.

My entire interaction with guild stores is either buying potions or selling motifs that keep piling up in my bags, I never felt compelled to do any writs

Zos has plenty opportunities to implement gold sinks in the last 2.5 years.

Yet zos choose not implement a single one, and added evem more gold source like tale of tribute.

This is like keep printing money when there is already high inflation.

Bro, I concluded that when I started playing MMOs 20 years ago. Find a set that does what you need it to do...and you'll rarely have to buy anything.

I can blame being redguard templar for my low DPS output. When they say play another race I say "I want to be represented. ZoS is the one who nerfed redguard not me. I still have no idea why they didn't give redguard stam recovery but 1000 stamina every 5 seconds....of which you MUST ATTACK to get. You can't blame me for the cards zos handed me in their fantasy game. I am just playing them. I could be a fair skinned imperial who does almost everything a redguard does and gets health. Like I said, I want to be represented. Now If ZoS will allow me to be a dark skinned NORD or something..."
