Large island to the east of Aldcroft

It appears on maps and is barely visible from shore. The maps suggest it's part of the zone. I tried to get there, but didn't find a way to reach it before getting slaughtered. I did get close enough to determine that something weird and interesting is happening there. There is a VERY tall tower on the island, and constant lightning strikes in the area.

You can swim out to the ship that's offshore at Aldcroft, but I found no way to board it.

I do think the slaughterfish are too aggressive. I wasn't even able to circumnavigate Betnikh, or get to the bottom of the peninsula south of Daggerfall, simply by sticking to the shore.

anything behind slaughterfish is not intended for you to be able to get to. It replaced the fatigue mechanic something like halfway through beta testing; a bit more realistic than you suddenly dying of fatigue in water you can wade in, right?

The tower is the Direnni Tower, one of the oldest structures in all of Tamriel. There's nothing there beyond the graphics. Maybe ZOS will make use of it in the future? Who knows. Right now it's basically a piece of landscape that you can see and not touch. That sort of things drives me mad, too, but there is no helping it.

Now, it comes back to me. So, if I want to get there, I'll have to reinstall Daggerfall. (Not sure how I'd do that now; mine was on diskettes.)

I do think that all the mechanisms designed to prevent players from going places are going to be sorely tested in this game.

Yeah it's kind of a tease. It's just an easter egg for fans of TES II: Daggerfall.

P.S. You can download Daggerfall for free from Bethesda.

@Heraclea - I considered that to be one of my duties in testing. :D Not that I made it into every corner or found every possible way off the map, but I found several. You're right though, people will probe at the boundaries. The change in fatigue mechanic to slaughterfish made it a lot harder to bypass by swimming, though.

In Storm haven on the most south west Island I saw a tower that looks like the gold tower off the western shore! Seems very odd since cyrodiil is to the East and very far away.

probably talking about the same thing. The Direnni Tower is akin to the White Gold tower, though it is not the same.

There is another, smaller island off Aldcroft that you can get to. There is a NPC on it, and if you talk to him he will tell you how he used to be a bandit but gave it up for fishing.

My first task on any map is to uncover the sights.

I noticed it too, didn't try to get there though. Interesting stuff!

One of the reasons I choose to play in the Covenant was to see this tower. Too bad I can't

Aha! Thank you, thought I was going mad, standing on the Glenumbrian coast looking over to Hammerfell and being able to see what looked like the WGT sticking up 'beyond' (but probably closer since it's always misty), looking like it was only 2 or 3 bus stops away. Now it all becomes clear: Direnni, not White Gold. I can stop fretting now.
