About changing classes and dying hair...

For me, the most absurd thing in the role play of this game is that we can change race but not class, and we can change tattoos but it's impossible to dye hair. I never understood it. It doesn't make any sense, it doesn't even seem like something hard to solve and is probably the biggest disappointment when it comes to role-playing at Elder Scrolls Online.

For example, years ago I started a Necromancer, did most of the game's content with it, but I never quite enjoyed the skill animations and didn't have much fun with the character in that class. So since I'm not willing to restart the entire game at this point... What can I do? What are my options? – I can replace the tattoos and change the race... Really?

Races and tattoos should be something we commit to in an RPG, but I can understand these changing permissions as a way for the developers to earn some extra cash. However, why can't we just pay 10 in-game gold to change the hair color? What is the problem? What's the excuse? And why can't we go somewhere like we do for vampires and werewolves and just reset the class and start a new one from scratch?

The game is now 8 years old, a lot has changed, for better and for worse, but nothing has ever been done to address these two ridiculously basic problems. Why not? When can we expect an update to this?

I understand not changing classes but I don't understand not changing hair color. They could even sell a hair coloring set (like the hairstyles we already have) and let us change our hair color whenever we want. I really don't see what's stopping this.

Hair Dyes are a major oversite in the game.

Different Class? Roll an Alt. Account Wide Achievements has removed the whole have to play the game over again argument.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I couldn't care less about achievements when it comes to my alts. Account Wide Achievements don't change the fact that you still don't have any quest done, that you miss all world, guild, alliance and craft skills. Account Wide Achievements is not a valid reason to trash an advanced character.

It shouldn't be a crown thing. Not everything has to be crown now. Dying hair is something basic in every game of this kind. It's not that hard to allow a player to change the color of an in-game object. We already had that in games more than 30 years ago. Why would dyeing hair have to be more expensive than dyeing armor?

Well all the other cosmetics we have work that way, with us unlocking them in our collections then click on the item we want to use. So it makes sense a hair pack would be the most sensible thing to be added to the store so we can change whenever like all the other cosmetics.

I'm confused now. I've been dyeing armor, weapons, and even costumes without ever paying real money for it. Besides, I've already paid a lot for this game: all the dlcs, eso+, a few store items every now and then... I've probably spent more money on this game than I've spent on my entire 19-year collection on Steam.

[snip] I wouldn't spend a penny on it anyway. I accept the idea, as an alternative, for colors we didn't get in the game but never for the ones we already got, as with the rest of the items we can dye.

Cosmetics are a crown thing, otherwise it would be pay to win items

A discount from full character appearance change would be fair.

Yes, I really don't understand not having a barber or something in the game. WoW had this before ESO was even a thing, yet ESO still doesn't have it.

I am also a proponent of having the ability to change hair color added (it is very long over-due), but to point something out...

You mention the ability to change tattoos in your OP.
The option to do so outside of character creation is made available via relatively low-cost Crown Store packs, just as there are also similar packs for adornments and hairstyles.
A one-time cost for a pack containing all of the hair colors we have available at character creation wouldn't be out of line with what we already have for other cosmetics. (As nice as it would be, I don't see them changing an established practice for something that functions the same as for other items.)

And adding occasional new hair colors, like they do for tattoos, adornments, and hairstyles would be welcome.

I still don't understand why Class cannot be changed. It simply does not make any sense to me. Can somebody explain it to me? I mean of course the player deciding on a class change would have to level the skills from zero. Knowing that you have a lot of options to accelerate progress I don't understand why a player should not have this option.

With changing class you would reset all your skill points and re attribute them.

And I am so totally in favor of having a class change voucher. Let it cost 5000 crowns or more to prevent ppl from class hopping.

Would you pay 63.000 crowns or even more for a class change token? No? Because that's the price you'd have to pay to get all the skyshards, skill lines and everything else from the crown store to bring a new character to the point where your old one probably would stop. And they're not going to miss out on so much cash with implementing a class-change in any way or at least for less than this price. There you have it, the reason is MONEY.

I still don't understand why Class cannot be changed....

I think it has something to do with how the character database is set up, and it not being either set up or efficient to change certain things, possibly going back to the original release and the way these things were originally conceptualised and implemented.

There was a thread a while ago that touched on this, but I don't remember when or the title, so finding it would be difficult.

I'd be quite happy with, and certainly prepared to pay for, an all-hair-colors dye pack, 1k crowns like the all-hair-styles pack. I don't care about class change - either yay or nay - because I prefer my multitude of alts.

I have leveled a multitude of characters up without buying all the sky shards etc. And there are many other reasons to have an additional character slot taken, not only class.

...what? Dyeing armours, weapons, and costumes is a different thing from cosmetic collection. I definitely don't want us to use the dye collection we use for gear on hair.

All other cosmetic packs we have gotten are purchased with crowns and quite cheaply as those go. Hair style pack, face marking back, body marking pack etc. It makes sense it would be a hair colour pack just like those, that let us switch between the hair colour options.

That would be cool; integrating a hair dye function into the Outfit/Dye Station, with access to the dyes we've unlocked.

True. It makes no sense that we have to use an appearance change token to change hair color when we can change hair styles on the fly.

And it makes every sense to have people roll alts in ESO as it drives crown store sales. Horse training probably sells very well and many get mounts and costumes and even homes specifically for each character.

They want you to miss those skill lines. They sell them in the crown store. And for around $30 a piece, I imagine a class change would be $300. If course discounted based on bulk crown purchases would complicate the price point

If/when we ever see hair dyes added ingame, chances are they will as a purchasable pack in the store.

Unlikely scenario, but they could very well just take the dyes we already earn ingame and allow those to be used as hair color.

I personally feel like hair colour should be handled in a similar way that costume/outfit dyes are handled. You have the base colours unlocked for your race, and can unlock other racial colours through a yet unspecified means. To change hair colours, you go to a dye station, and apply the new colour for a nominal gold fee. Some of the hairstyles change the colouring of the hair, so putting down a couple-hundred gold for a colour change is purely in the benefit of the player.

Put all the hair colors in a "dye pack" and sell it for crowns, like 500 crowns. I know Z won't do anything that doesn't bring in some funds. But at least we could gift it out as well as buy it for ourselves. Let every character be able to use every color!
