Bound Weapons? Yay or Nay?

Basically as in title. Do you think we will ever see bound weapons in game? I mean, Sorcerers have Daedric Summoning so, why not?

Would you like to see them? Would they be viable?

I enjoyed daedric weapon summoning in TES games, but I think they would have a hard time making the spell viable, and balanced.

In order to keep it from invalidating proper weapons, they'd have to be comparable to white items of your level. This would make the spell useless most of the time.

One possible solution would be to replace the caster's equipped weapons with Daedric weapons of the same type, and augment the pre-existing stats with a minor buff based on level. Having said that, I'm not sure melee sorcerers really need a buff at this point.

I would love it, especially to match the bound armor aesthetics.(only Daedric weapons match the style, but not the mystic silver color of Bound armor)

But I'm at a bit of a loss on how to actually implement them and be balanced. Still, I would be interested in seeing it added.

The only way I could see something like that would be if it 'bound' your current weapon (gave it a makeover and a slight boost) as to not make normal weapons obselute nor making bound weapons a bad choice.

Couldn't it just be balanced around a max magicka penalty or something?

Yes, like how bound armor overrides your armor and gives an armor boost.

Bound weapon replaces your current weapon with the selected bound weapon arche-type. So bound sword would replace your sword or even staff, with a mystical Daedric longsword. It increases your base weapon damage, has it's own unique dark enchantment. Balanced by the fact that it takes up a spell slot.

    Could work.

The definition for "bound" for me is, bind on equip. or "no drop" as in end game gear which cant be traded or sold. Old schoolers would need more clarification before they might answer. By bound are you just meaning "enchanted"? I guess terms and meaning have changed.

It's like the conjured weapons from skyrim for example.

They were called things like "Bound Sword".

Bound, in this case, refers to the spells like Bound Armor, Bound Shield, bound Sword, etc... from Elder Scrolls Games, allowing a spellcaster to summon themselves armor and weapons.

The down side is that the spell to cast would be taking a slot. Essentially taking an action away from the associated weapon.

yes, it would take a slot, but it needs to have some kind of advantage over normal weapons, and some disadvantages.

I guess that's the fine line to balance.

Well lets say your gear was trashed while you were in a dungeon a mage could then summon some for either you or your group members.Armor that would be loosely based on what they currently had equipped minus some of the traits or buffs, it'd be like temporary armor until they could get back to town for repairs. EQ1 had that system to aide in corpse runs so u wouldnt have to run nekkid to get your stuff back.

Seems like a good idea to me, its late i shouldnt be typing anymore lol

As Sarenia said, it would be hard to balance though not impossible, it would be awesome if they managed though.

That said, I remember using that spell one time in my TES career but it was hilarious (a bit off topic, sorry in advance :P) : it was in Skyrim, at the quest when we had to sneak in the Thalmor embassy and had to give our weapons and armors we wanted to use to our inside guy. Well I did exactly that, the problem was that I didn't have any spare stuff, I was sort of talking to the NPC at the carriage in my underpants when during the conversation, a random dragon appeared.

Öt course the NPC went in combat mode before finishing the dialogue and I couldn't use the carriage either. And my quicksand was just before the dialogue and the dragon was already around so I couldn't avoid it. Hardest dragon fight in my life :D

Since then, I like bound weapon and armor spells even though I don't use them!

Sorry to those who didn't quite get 'bound' to mean conjured. I just assume everyone has played Elder Scrolls. I forget some people may have not. Apologies for that.

Interesting what people say here about balancing. I guess it is a difficult one regarding balance. But, surely not impossible. It's just that I used to make Elder Scrolls characters that did not carry any weapons and only relied on conjured weapons (dual conjured swords, and the bow). Had a blast with that.
