New class/race : why not a Daedra ?

Because Daedra as class would be silly? 'What's your main?' 'A Nord Daedra!'

If Daedra would be introduced as anything playable, it would be a race, but that would not really fit in the story with the Vestige. NPC's respond to players as them being men/mer. So either it would have to all be adjusted or everyone would be complaining about why NPC is treating you like you're from this realm.

Well to be honest: There is magic and Daedra can hide under humans. So Daedra as a race actually would be a valid option - that pretty likely would be welcomed by a large part of the community that doesn't care too much about the lore. The lore fanatics on the other hand? Might scream in anguish

How about Daedra as a seperate faction, with different kinds of them individually being presented as races, with their own strengths and weaknesses?

For example, i'd like to have an ogrim stamina necromancer, which is strong in close quarters combat situations, but weak against ranged attacks in overall.

No, the Vestige is not a Daedra.

Source #1: the numerous times that Lyranth asks us to deal with anti-Daedra wards and other stuff during the Gates of Oblivion storyline. "Little mortal" this, "little mortal" that.

Source #2: we're likely a "Paragon" individual generated hy the Heart of Nirn to protect itself as theorized here https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Chaotic_Creatia:_The_Azure_Plasm and further supported in the new character tutorial.

No, the Vestige is not a Daedra.

Daedra are said to be able to imitate life, but are not life itself. Pretty sure that's written in a book by Divayth Fyr. I am pretty sure a vestige is within that definition as well, but a vestige encompasses more since daedra are not of nirn- some simply just are. It's likely possible for a vestige imitating the appearance of a daedra is possible, but they would have to introduce this idea for wide audiences to internalize and accept.

If there wasnt already lore-breaking occurrences (such as 2 abnur tharns in the same mage's guild location), this could matter more. And for that quest you refer to, it could be re-written/redone. We could also be chimer, falmer, ayelid, maomer, or even dwemer or one of the many races from akavir if they really wanted, you can't argue for true extinction of a species with cases like Yagrum Bagarn walking around. All it needs is a good tutorial to satisfy the plot holes for new races they want to introduce.

The vestige is not a daedra. We're specifically unaffected by stuff that affects daedra, and this is a repeated plot point in the Blackwood/Fargrave content. We share some similarities but we're not actually Daedra.
