I see, so the people who bought and supported the game on console long before the Next Gen came out should simply be abandoned? There's loyalty to a player base for you. They would most likely lose a lot of players if they did that, there's a lot of people out there on last gen who can't find, or afford, a next gen console. (I used to play on XB1 until I was lucky enough to get my hands on a Series X)

You get to keep playing, you just don't get any updates. Just like Rockstar did with GTA 5.

It's time to upgrade your hardware man. If you can't afford a ps5 check out the Series S, it's a fantastic little machine for half the price.
Depends on where you live, XBOX Series S is still $400 AUD here in Australia, not exactly cheap by any means. I'd also rather quit the game than start over (again) on a different console.
    Australian on PS4 NA server.
    Everyone's entitled to an opinion.

Actually game developers have said the Series S is holding them back.

Can you post a link to an article or an interview where they said this?

i just dont get why consoles dont make decent long lasting and quality gaming devices at a good price when they could probably afford it... im tired of feeling like the consumer who pays to beta test an idea that will never be a reality(consoles being the best option for gaming)

It's not that consoles don't last, with a few rare exceptions they do. (Even then it's usually one minor thing - like some original Xboxes having 1 faulty capacitor which needs to be removed or replaced to keep the console running). I've got 14 consoles from 5 different manufacturers in my house, the oldest is from the 80's, several are from the mid-90's and they all still work like they did when they were new. In the same time I've had at least 4 PCs which I had to replace because they stopped working.

The problem is that consoles are not designed to be upgraded so when technology moves on the manufacturers need to make a whole new console to run newer games instead of making individual parts that can be replaced, and anyone who wants to play the new games needs to buy the new console.

In theory they could make consoles which are designed to be upgraded and then sell the relevant parts, but at that point you may as well just use a PC because for a lot of people the simplicity of using a console is a big part of the appeal, you don't have to worry about components and upgrades and specs and compatibility: you know your PS5 can play all PS5 games right out the box. When the time comes to upgrade it all you need to do is buy a PS6.

Also there's only so far PCs can be upgraded before they need to be replaced too. A few years ago I needed a new graphics card because mine couldn't run newer games and kept crashing, but then I had to get a new motherboard and CPU because they were obsolete and not compatible with newer graphics cards. Because of that I had to reinstall Windows and a lot of software and at that point it was pretty much like buying a new PC. (Except a bit cheaper because I kept the same case, hard drives, PSU and peripherals.) When that one died I did buy a whole new one because there wasn't enough worth keeping to justify the hassle. (I kept 1 hard drive, and the monitor.)

I'd never want to give up on PCs and just use consoles (especially since I use the PC for a lot besides gaming) but I've had far more hassle keeping a PC running or choosing a new one to buy than I ever have with consoles.
