Crown store, ESO plus or buying DLC/complete package, its kinda complex

Hello there, i am a true new player, playing for like a month now and just got my first lvl 50 character. I bought the base game and have no clue what zones are really included.
I don't care about looks or fancy stuff, i care about walking around, questing and from time to time join the occasional group or helping someone out.
Now my questions:
- I understand when you have ESO+ you can access all expansions, but as soon as you stop ESO+ you lose them again. Is that right ?
- With ESO+ you get Crowns, which is (as i see it) mostly useless stuff, just for decoration. And maybe some crafting stuff. Is that right ?
- With Crowns you could also buy expansions, but it looks like it will take years to get enough Crowns from ESO+. So you should have to buy Crowns to get enough ?
- I found the new expansion (High Isle) offered as an "includes base game and includes previous chapters" offer. This looks by far the easiest way to own all expansions and get up-to-par with current players. But the question is "what do thy exactly mean with previous chapters" ? What is really included ?

As said i like to own all expansions (DLC) and just play around PvE, i dont care about mounts, pets, looks.
Could someone please advise me on how to progress, i am kinda lost as of what to do right now as i dont understand lots of the gameplay yet.

Thank you very much and kind regards,
Ed.

Part of the confusion is that there are different types of DLC in this game.
    • Chapters are sold seperately at first (not included in ESO+ and not available through the crown store) and always consist of a new map with it's own story, side quests, delves and public dungeons, trials etc. After a year (when the next chapter comes out) they're rebranded as DLC and from that point on they are sold in the crown store and included in ESO+ and are also included in the Collection version of the next chapter. (High Isle is the current chapter.)
    • Story/Zone DLC includes similar content to chapters: a new map with it's own story and side quests (but no trials I think). The difference is it's included in ESO+ from the day it's released and also available in the crown store.
    • Dungeon DLC is just dungeons, specifically 2 of them in each DLC. Each one has it's own story and recently they tie into the story of that year's chapter and zone DLC but there's no new maps, no side quests, nothing but the dungeons. Like zone DLC they're included in ESO+ and sold on the crown store as soon as they're released.

As above it means you get the DLC which was originally sold as chapters, but nothing else. So that's Morrowind, Summerset, Elseweyr, Greymoor, Blackwood and High Isle but none of the other DLC.

If you want permanent access to everything the best option is:
    1) Buy Collection: High Isle (not the ones marked as upgrades and not the confusingly named Collection: High Isle Collectors Edition which includes various items you've repeatedly said you don't care about).
    2) Buy the following DLC bundles from the crown store:
    • Guilds and Glory
    • Year Two Mega Pack
    • Year Three Mega Pack
    • Season of the Dragon bundle
    3) Then buy the remaining DLC from the crown store:
    • Flames of Ambition
    • Waking Flame
    • Deadlands
    • Ascending Tide
    • Lost Depths
    • Firesong

But if you're specifically interested in questing then it may be worth spacing out your purchases and only buying new DLC as you get to it. You can find guides online (and on this forum) which tell you the release/chronological order of events and then you only need to pay for the next part. That also gives you more room to wait for sales and offers which might make it cheaper. (For example it's likely that sometime soon Flames of Ambition, Waking Flames and Deadlands will be bundled together since those are all part of Blackwood's year long story.) I still recommend buying the collection version of the latest chapter when you get to one through, because it's cheaper than buying them all seperately.

You could also get ESO+ for a limited time so you can try out the DLC and decide which one's you want to buy.

Finally if you don't play dungeons much and you don't mind missing some details from the overarching story which the newer chapters and zone DLC tie into you could skip the dungeon DLC. Then you'd only need to buy the chapters, the Guilds & Glory pack and Murkmire, Dragonhold, Markarth, Deadlands and Firesong.

Only chapters are included in a full version, not dlc.

Chapters: Western Skyrim, summerset, blackwood, north elsweyr

Dlc: the reach, fargrave, clockwork city, gold coast, orsinium (wrothgar), south elsweyr, all except the basegame dungeons and trials.

It is a good strategy to buy a full version once to get started, then either add dlc you like for crowns from the crown store, or using ESO plus. Ñext year then you would only buy the upgrade for half the price.

I use ESO plus on one account, for the craft bag and to have all dungeons, but think of unsubscribing.

On my other account I have no ESO plus, as dlc dungeons take too long and have stupid one shot mechanics, so I dislike to play them. So I just bought some dlc regions here for crowns. Makes random daily dungeon run quests much faster.

And there are sometimes sales on the zone DLC, especially during their "zone celebration" events. If you're patient, you can get several of them for less crowns.

+1 to what @Danikat and @Kiralyn2000 said-- buy the bundled DLCs where possible, and buy the remaining DLCs when they're on sale. But I think maybe @Danikat forgot to include Clockwork City in that last paragraph?

Wow, what a really good and nice responses to my questions. Thanks alot, especially @markulrich1966 and @Danikat for clearing it all out !! But also to the others of course. Really helpfull !!!

I will start buying this Collection: High Isle and work from there. Gonna be enough content for a while to come for me. Besides there are so many things in-game i still have to figure out. I really love the storylines and sidequests, repetative things like dungeons are never much my thing anyways, so i probably skip them for a bit and not spend money on them, unless its some special offer.

Thanks alot again, much appreciated :-)
