Remember when locations difficulty was rated by level?

Hiya!

This was before I leveled up to 50.
The game has different level monsters per region. ie. The Rift was level 42-50, Deshaan was 1-10...

I miss that. When I was a higher level, it was nice to go in to the lower level areas and CRUSH the lower level creatures (but get lower xp)
Also be extremely thrilled and challenged by the higher level areas... LOVED IT. Died a lot but to explore a forbidden region was AWESOME!

Guess it is too late to revert the existing regions...but what about newer regions?
Maybe based off CP - like levels 0-1000. 1001-2000, 2001-3000, 3001-3600? Ok, I get 3000+ is still rare.

But more of a PVE challenge.

Thoughts?

Yes, I realize logistics (code, infra, economics etc) is an issue. But outside of that....

...would that be of interest to anyone?

I feel the PVE stories differ only a bit, and the bosses...well the same. While some bosses like Dragons are too difficult need a group to win, others are just too squishy.

Thotz?

ESO classic will always have a nostalgic feel to it, but the game changed to cater to people who wanted to group with friends even if they chose a different alliance.

While a portion of the playerbase may have quit due to the changes, a larger portion stayed and continue to thrive under newer conditions. In truth, making each DLC have 3 separate faction storylines is also difficult to impossible to do with the current zone-dlc-zone-dlc format.

Once you reach cp 660-ish you perform the same, or as close to the same, as someone who is any CP above it- so I don't think a zone for cp levels 1000-2000, 2001-3000 are needed. They lowered the ceiling in a big way with slotted cp.

Yep, I miss that way of levelling up, I think it gave levelling 1-50 an appropriate and realistic amount of difficulty compared to what it is these days.

Well.... I left WoW and RIFT because that's how those games were, and arrived here after 1Tam loving the fact that you didn't have to chase gear after CP 160, and the whole world was the same level even for low level characters.

So I wouldn't be interested, no.

The big problem is that there is such a large gap between player dps for any semblence of usefulness in the guide.

One player can be level 50 and struggle to do 10k dps - meaning they'd need to go to a level 10 zone to feel the same as a level 50 who pulls 50k dps and crushes the zones as they are.

Unless skill and gear play a much smaller role in dps to where it's not a gap of 10 times between bad and good players, but a gap of three times, those sorts of zones wont really do much anymore.

I'm not against the idea that they boost the dps of people who just haven't got any to 15-20k minimum (so base is higher, scaling is halved etc) but I don't think a lot of high end players realise why it'd be better for the game if they no longer pull 80-85% of the damage in a random.

Back then, I found myself enjoying vet zones far more than my home faction, purely because I had more freedom as to where I could go within the 5 level range the game had set. Having massive chunks of land invalidated to be anything meaningful because of its level meant you could out level it before exploring it fully and other locations you had to grind to just to visit, a very restrictive design even when looked at favorably and while I would love the option, it can both be provided without returning this restrictive design and be applied to all zones equally with tech ZOS already has, so I see no reason why it should be brought back.

I like having the freedom to choose where my characters go and when. Many of them do follow the main stories and therefore go through the base game maps in the original order, but others don't. They have their own stories which involve a lot more skipping around maps or working through them in an unconventional order (one even still has her soul) and I like that I can do that instead of being restricted to the same path every time.

Even on the characters who are following the original order it's nice that everything scales to the same level because before One Tamriel I was always over-levelled for the areas I was in because I did all the side quests instead of rushing through the bare minimum to survive the next area. Periodically I'd reach the point where I was so far ahead of the recommended level that I stopped getting XP, then the areas I was in would start to catch up to my level, but it never got there. Which also meant every quest reward was guarenteed to be useless because it was way below my level.

If I want more of a challenge there are areas of the game which offer that, or ways to weaken the character, and again I like that it's my choice to do that.

I do miss the old zone levels as well, but I can see why they scrapped it, alongside regions being alliance locked until Cadwell Silver/Gold, to allow for people to play together anywhere. I'm sure there probably would have been some way to lift the travel restriction while maintaining some form of zone levels by having people scale to the party leader, if not a tiny but under it.

However, I don't think there is much, if any way to scale content through the CP ranks past CP160. Gear and items stop here, and really I don't think you get all that much out of the CP system past a certain point to warrent a way to scale it in a meaningful way.

I do agree though in the sense of finding some way of adding a challange back into Overland, as do many others it seems, but it is a delicate topic to get right for everyone. Allowing those who don't want to do it/can't do it to be left alone to the current ways, and us that do to be able to switch to it as it was. That being said, I've been playing since '16, so it could just be me reminising of the old ways!

Remembers too. Was too easy to out level quests and that meant getting no XP for completion. Flip side, players were slaughtered in zones above their level, one shot by npc's.

    I hated that

crawled through the first part of the main quest and then it said . come back after you gain 5 levels.

quit the game actually, and came back when I heard about the balancing.

    Been great ever since.

Except for the Not being allowed to Block anymore. Its a whole lot of fun watching the character put their hands down in the ' Please Hit Me Hard ' position instead of Blocking. Granted, the Block Does work maybe 1 out of every 5 times you use it.

Why wasn't this fixed with the Fix on the 14th?

What I remember was it being a major pain to do the Thieves Guild starting quest. I had an EP character and had to go from Stonefalls to Eastmarch. I was pretty low level, maybe level 15. I went into the Rift and the base monsters are decimating me. I still managed to get to Windhelm and do the quest. Did a lot of running. Being the newb that I was it didn't even occur to me to use a wayshrine or any other means to get there. Fun times.

I remember everything higher than 5 above dodging my attacks, and anything lower than 5 below giving me no xp whatsoever.

I remember not being able to play with my friends who were differently leveled, something I've taken so for granted in ESO that I actually noticed it while trying warframe.

I DO miss the cheese of setting trials to level 10, completing for the coffer, and getting the motifs. Duoing MoL on release with the wife was amazing. That said, it did royally trash the market.

All in all, I believe we got something better, even if we did lose some novelties.

Oh I do remember those days, and hitting a wall at around level 18 because I couldn't go through an Ayleid ruin  I personally prefer being able to go anywhere in the game, though the system had its merits because it naturally guided players through the story, whereas now it's easy for new players to get lost. Still, I wouldn't like to see locked zones again, what they could do instead is implement a toggle for a higher difficulty option in overland areas, so players who want a more challenging experience could activate that option, and so on.

Nope. One of my CP2200 elf's favorite zones to spend time in is Auridon. And overall, she prefers every single one of the original game zones to any one of the newer dlc zones. Don't nerf the early zones.
