id like to see a popular trend in pvping with small groups consisting of different roles
the best way to do this is to separate tanks dps and healers without taking their ability to run what they want from them otherwise everyone is going to play the same way and make the same type of builds (solo anything tank dps healers) this isnt the way this game was meant to be imo
instead we would see many different roles like
dps brawlers (typically heavy armor dps good at fighting and sustainability but not super OP unkillable zergbusters)
squish dpsers (opportunist zergbusters who outdamage dps brawlers but arent super op one hit kill murderers with unbeatable mechanics)
dps healers (healers who deal a bit of damage)
tank healers (healers with good survivability)
this would be best if those op builds were nerfed to limit the potential of any one person to seemingly exploit a lack of balance, critical thinking, or care being put into how the game is being played...
also achieving this would make building for something other than dps more useful...

id like to imagine battlegrounds matches being played more strategically group wise at higher levels should be necessary rather than optional and seeing the metas typically always be the same thing gets old

ESO just isn't that game. Experienced PvPers develop playstyles and muscle memory, then craft builds around that. While balance issues are real, I think balance has always been somewhat better than what common wisdom would have believe. When you run into the unkillable player that kills you and your inexperienced mates, their general combat experience and muscle memory plays a big part in that.

Then there is buildcraft. ESO now has 500+ armor sets and a ton of build options from traits, mythics, poisons, and so on. IMO ZOS do not fully balance the game, because (a) they can't see through it themselves - the spectacular meta swings from patch to patch are plenty evidence of that - and (b) theorycrafting is part of the game's appeal. Players are free to explore, to make bad builds, and to discover good ones. It's this theorycrafting sandbox aspect that keeps some of us engaged.

The only way for that to be possible is to copy Guild Wars 2 and make it physically impossible to bring in your own gear into Battlegrounds. Instead you have a special PvP loadout with everything unlocked, and you pick and choose what stats you want when going in that's preselected by the devs.

Otherwise this build freedom ZOS gives us what you propose will never, ever, happen, especially when PvE and PvP elements are balanced together with no dichotomy between them.

Making roles in groups won't fix the problem either as PvP no matter whether you go more healing or tank focused is all about killing your enemies. A tank outside objectives is essentially worthless since they're not contributing kills to the team, and in the higher MMR BGs nobody will waste their time on a tank unless they've murdered the rest of their team mates leaving them alone.

there is this thing called balancing the game and yeah it would take a bit of sitting around and thinking about it
taking the ability to heal purely off spell power away isnt destroying build freedom as you can still run whatever you want to youd just be more realistically a damage dealer than a dps and wouldnt benefit from healing sets and items as much

it is also about attacking and defending keeps in which healers and tanks might come in handy you dont have to be a super tank but instead can be mainly a tank with some type of offense that isnt op or special defence... meaning you could survive two or three players but not kill them without help from actual dps this way it wouldnt necessarily be useless as having someone standing in battle is a good thing
