Issue: can't even OPEN the game

My game's not crashing; it's not even OPENING. Clicking "Play" on the launcher flashes a black screen for a second then brings me back to my desktop. Can't disable addons from the character select screen for the workaround, since I can't even get to the login screen. This is continuing even after a full game repair.

tindomiel4✭✭✭I’ve had that same problem once so far, interspersed with internal errors and instant server connection drops (ie, clicked login, instantly lost connection). No error message, but my computer did give me a report. Haven’t made it into the game yet.0 -

Lady_Ems✭✭✭The way the game is crashing and we are losing progress in the new zone (not sure about the other zones) and some even losing the items they collected before they got rolled back after the crash. I would stay away for a while. I'm about to go read a book! At least it won't crash on me!!!3

This is my plan, too. There’s way too much going on right now. Even if I got in, there’s no guarantee I could go further. I’m so glad my intuition told me to do my dailies before logging out last night!

TrellyTB✭We are doing the same, the game is far too unreliable. It's the game itself, as well as the launcher that are issues for us. The launcher is randomly resetting the entire game, forcing a full download even though the game is there. Then it crashes trying to get to character select, and the game is reset and needs complete downloading again.

lol read a book because it doesn't crash good one there, but yeah same here my game won't even updates without it crashing on me so i m just chilling right now playing other games till the company gets there heads out their butt and fixes the problems all of theme.
No, I'm not trying to break rules to anything but seriously i have seen company that have half the money this game has, and half the staff do an update right with no errors, don't know what it is about this company and breaking their own game every update.1 -

Most likely won't be they will only fix the major one that gets the most attention and most likely ignore the other ones and till next update when the company breaks there game again lol0 -
Aashiana✭✭✭I'm having the same problem that occurred yesterday, where the (non-Steam) launcher won't even get to updating the patch. It just hangs on "Checking for invalid game files..." The work-around yesterday was to go to the folder with game executable and launch it directly. Obviously that won't work today as far as getting the new content downloaded.
Was a fix ever found for this? I didn't see one reported on that bug thread.0 -

Thats, because you realize wait this is an issue take it out put back in the oven bake a bit longer this company na man rill it out why are players saying it isn't working look light over there. Sorry couldn't help former Navy here we did the same thing if we did an update, and it didn't work rip it out or roll back if possible and work with what we now work and fix the broken thing.
I do guarantee if the crown store was this bad man, they be on it like no one's business and have a fix 2 seconds later, as literally there paycheck relies on that never breaking.1 -

If the game will not start and the play button does nothing, there are a few troubleshooting steps below that may help.
Create an Anti-virus or Firewall Exception for ESO
Each antivirus program is different and we recommend that you view the antivirus developer's website for full instructions on how to add exceptions.
The application files that may require exceptions are:- Bethesda.net_launcher: C:\Program Files (x86)\ZenimaxOnline\Launcher
- ESO.exe: C:\Program Files (x86)\ZenimaxOnline\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client\eso.exe
- Steam.exe: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe
Some antivirus programs require entire folders to be selected instead of a single file. When this is the case, the file paths below are what you should use. If required by the anti-virus program, include all subfolders since every file is critical to run the game.- C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\
Delete the Program Data- Close the ESO Launcher.
- Navigate to the patch installation folder,
- By default, this folder will be located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Zenimax Online\Launcher\ProgramData.
- Locate and delete the ProgramData folder.
- Restart the ESO Launcher.
