Read dead online players won't all be able to transfer stadia unlike with eso.

Just wanted to say thanks for doing better. Makes me feel more loyal.

This is not at all a comparable situation, though.

ZOS is not transferring anything anywhere, despite the inaccurate verbiage in their own announcement. They themselves have said they don’t have the tools to transfer data to another server, even if they wanted to.

It looks like Rockstar does have those tools and has to move data to a different server for Stadia users to keep playing. They are choosing to put restrictions on it, but they are actually offering to do more on their end for Stadia users in terms of actual transfers.

Either way it has nothing to do with kindness and everything to do with profit. One company has decided they'll make more money doing it one way, the other has decided more profit will occur doing it another way. Let's not confuse the fact it's all about money and not kindness.

I agree that ZOS likely only made the offer they did because they don't actually have to transfer data between servers. But it's still more than the minimum they could have done - previously if you wanted to play ESO on Stadia and PC you had to buy the game on both platforms. If I remember correctly it was the same when they did a genuine transfer to consoles when the game launched there - you had to have bought the game on PC already and had to buy another copy on console before a certain date to qualify for the transfer.

So they could easily have confirmed to Stadia players that their account data would be safe but kept the existing requirement that they must buy a PC copy of the game to be able to access it on PC. Which might even have seemed reasonable considering their Stadia purchase will be refunded. Instead they're effectively giving everyone on Stadia a free PC copy. It's not much but it's more than the minimum they could have done to retain those players.

On the other hand Rockstar have put a requirement in place that no one knew about until after it was too late to qualify. They're saying you have to have logged into the game through Stadia in the 30 days before the announcement to be able to transfer. Remember no one, including the people working on it, knew Stadia was closing down until that day so no one would have any reason to think that 30 day period was important, by the time players knew it was it was too late for them to do anything about it.

I understand they don't want to transfer everyone's accounts, especially if they're not being used but IMO the reasonable thing to do would be to say you have to have logged in to it before a future cut-off point and contacted them to request a transfer. That still cuts it down to people who care enough to do that, so they won't be transferring accounts that won't be used, but it means if players want to they can make the effort to meet the requirements.

What is laughable is these same people would be calling Zenimax a heartless terrible company if they didn't transfer the accounts.

Because no matter what they do you have to hate them. It's like some unspoken law.

You must be new here. There are reasons people hate on ZOS, deservedly so... and they've probably been here for years and lived through all the ups and many, many more downs.

To be fair, everyone on Stadia was already playing on the PC server, so there is nothing to transfer.

Additionally, Zenimax required players who played on PC but wanted to play on Stadia to purchase a second license even though they were playing the very same game on the very same server. Even though that second license only needed the base game they still double-diped on that.

All Zenimax is doing there is waving that second license requirement for Stadia players who never played their games via PC. That is not only good PR since everyone knows Zenimax does not have to do anything to accommodate these players but it is also good business as some players can continue playing ESO and spend more money on the game.

    Adding here.

It seems Rockstar is allowing players to transfer their progress to another server. The caveat is that they needed to have played the game in the thirty days before the announcement. So those who have not been playing recently are the ones getting left out.

Granted, this could very well change but it is also not an absolute barrier to all of their Stadia players.

Well, of course it’s a business decision. But ZOS was never faced with the same dilemma as Rockstar, if Rockstar is indeed transferring actual data. That’s why the entire comparison is a false analogy, regardless of anyone’s motivation. The two companies made different decisions because they were faced with different situations, so trying to praise ZOS by bashing Rockstar based on those disparate decisions is fallacious.

From my understanding, if you bought the game on stadia you have to buy the copy for pc to play, but stadia is refunding the cost of the stadia copy, so it's a wash.

As a side note, I'm sure that the requirement to purchase the stadia copy to play there, even though you had pc copy, had nothing to do with ZOS and everything to do with stadia....

Who even cares about the "true" reason why they do it? The mental gymnastics to make a positive thing into a negative / depressing thing is rather.. typical.

As a player of any game, the end result is all that matters with things like this. A game studio messing up your existing account is bad, and saving your existing account is good.

IMO this is one of the rare cases where something is pretty black and white.

Like, I wouldn't touch Stadia if I were paid to do it so I have no horse in the race, but I'd say game studios offering solutions for Stadia players to continue on another platform are most definitely a good thing.

It's acceptable to post about problems with ESO on the official ESO forums. Where else should they be posted? Or do you think nobody should ever complain under any circumstances? .... even when there are issues like the stuck in combat bug that has existed for years and still causes problems?

If it's not acceptable to post complaints on the official forum, what do you suggest players do when they have problems with the game?

Nope, what ZOS have said is if you own the game on Stadia you'll be able to play on PC without buying it again.

That's the nice thing ZOS did (regardless of their reasons for doing it). They could have kept the requirement to buy it again and just said since Stadia is going to refund everyone it will work out, but they made the decision to let those players install it on PC for free.

Stadia players are playing on pc servers. You could play the same account on pc and stadia so its nothing to transfer.
Some play on pc at home and stadia on the road.

Now stadia refund games purchased but not in game purchases like crowns or eso+.
Not sure if stadia gives the eso purchase price to ZoS or if you double dip here.
Still for ZoS this is smart as they keep customers, looks good and don't loose anything.
You still need an gaming pc to play.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

its not like they let the players install the game for free, its that they already got paid by stadia for the people that were playing on their platform.
