Most of the content we get every year is well-suited for casuals. There are many story quests and zones to explore on top of each dungeon and trial has a normal version that tends to be ideal for casual players who are not up for more challenging content.
Yep, Cyrodiil is the majority of my play time now. If they close it, I don't see myself logging in any more.

Same goes for me and everyone who's left on my friends list. Most on my friends list have left in the last year or so, and the rest are totally disheartened now after U35 and U33 and are playing much less now. Some days the PvP guild I play with struggles to fill a 12 player raid group. Two years ago we filled a 24 player raid group daily and sometimes almost a full second raid group.

If they removed the 3 alliances from Cyrodiil and replaced them with something else to denote what side you were on, say you decide to be on the red team or the blue team when you enter Cyrodiil, would you still play?
As I've said elsewhere, the three banners war is too ingrained in the game to simply wish it away. There are literally hundreds of references to it in quests, books, and dialogue.
It's part of the main story as well. And when ZOS corrupted the Bosmer lore on February 25th, 2019, they never bothered to go back and rewrite just a few quests and texts to reflect that change. So there is no way they would take the time to revise everything related to the war.

If it were to end, it wouldn't be that it never happened. It would be that it's over. It's part of the main story as well. When stealth was removed from the Bosmer and given solely to the Khajiit, in return for which, Bosmer were given stealth detect.

I’m not sure how they could end the war while maintaining all things in story happen at the same time and are not a consecutive series of events.
It's quite extraordinary how one poster comments "makes it seem like they have plans for shutting down cyrodiil to me" and other players across two threads (this one and the maintenance mode one) are falling on their swords as if it were established fact.

They'd probably mark it as the beginning event of a new age, so all the expansions until that point are happening at once. And all expansions after that point would be post war.

So let’s say that you just bought the game, and you’re starting out in some new 2023 expansion where the three sides are at peace. How do you explain having to get the now somehow warring factions to work together at Stirk, when it appears that they want to kill you, and each other? And why are AD soldiers trying to kill you in Shadowfen? Why do you need to kill DC soldiers in Stonefalls? How can you retcon the war when the last 8 years of content are filled with it?
Time is pretty dodgy in this game anyway. Quest NPCs you've finished a delve with will stand around outside it forever, eternally telling you what their next plans are. That guy with his poor, ill sister in Greymoor...
